My GSM Nokia phone is hard locked after trying 5 times,

if I take it to customer service to upgrade the firmware(software),

Can it return to be soft locked? Thanks a lot.

Call Rogers and get the PUK Code for your SIM.

I am assuming that your SIM is locked and not the phone. I don't think the phone will lock you out permanently.

If you tried to unlock the subsidy lock then your phone is completely locked. Only a technician can unlock it. Otherwise yeah it's probably the PUK code, just call Rogers and they'll give you the code.

The PUK code is needed after 3 unsuccessful attempts at the SIM PIN code. If the phone is locked after 5 attempts, then it's a subsidy lock. You maybe able to reset it yourself using software like NSS, but it's not likely.

I've been trying to get my phone unlocked. I've had my Nokia 5300 for some 5 months now.

I called up Rogers last night, but they said they don't have my unlock code and suggested I find a small unlocking shop to do it. They said they couldn't help me, and that unlocking my phone would void my warranty.

I'm pretty damn sure that unlocking a phone will NOT void its warranty, but is there any way I can beat my unlock code out of these pricks?

I'm pretty sure that your wrong..
Unlocking DOES infact void warranty with the carrier.

.... I don't think the phone will lock you out permanently.
GSM Phones are programmed to allow up to 5 'tries' to enter the unlock code, before being hard-locked.

You can still do a 'cable' unlock though afaik.

I'm impressed Rogers actually suggested that lolz.

I'm pretty sure ....
lmao...years...and YEARS...the same argument propogates itself.

Everybody is 'pretty sure'...except nobody ever bothers to REFERENCE official documentation from the manufacturers themself indicating that doing firmware mods (for Motos., flashing/seem editing), UNLOCKING, will or will NOT Void any waranttee. To me it just sounds like a COP-OUT, ANY old way for a company to WEASLE out of their legally bound contract to provide warantee service to THEIR product.

If it's written in the rules, SHOW ME. Otherwise, Le Shove it.
