I am wondering where I can locally buy a cheap degaussing coil for my monitor. I have some discoloration in the screen after a move and from my research a strong degaussing coil should do the trick. also how big a coil do I need for a 24 inch monitor?i see they come in 6 or 12 inch, and I don't want the 12 inch to wipe out my harddrives in the process :-)

Thanks

P.s: If anyone has a coil in the downtown area and wouldn't mind helping me out that would be awesome.

I think some stores in the Victoria Park and Gordon Baker area may sell these things.

I do have a 19" CRT and 17" CRT monitor for sale if you are interested. The details are in my signature, and the price is negotiable.

haven't used one in ages but they wont harm your hard drive.. however if you want to be safe dont degauss your hard drives.

Thanks hightech,

I am not familiar with the area though , do you know any specific store names so that I can call them? I already have a 17 inch for a backup , Thanks

Lol , I am just worried if they are close the magnetic field might be strong enough to harm them. I am not degaussing my harddrives :) . you wouldn't have an old coil lying around that you don't want to use now would you?

I do have one but it's not strong enough so I need to use an external powerful degausser . Do you have an idea were I could buy one?

Up again , I went to the local tv store and they had one for their personal use but they will be charging me at least 46 bucks to just come and have a look although I am less than half a block away.... So I still need a manual coil. Ebay has ones from hong kong but they aren't coils , it seems it is a stick which doesn't seem right.
