Speakers Crackling

I bought the Altec Lansing VS2421 from FS' sale last week. Plugged it in for the first time today, and man the left speaker won't stop crackling. Even when I disconnect the speakers from the laptop it would keep crackling. Any solutions or should I return them?

yeah i was gonna return them but i lost the receipt. was gonna go over there, buy a new pair then use the receipt to return these. went over there and they no longer have the speakers. ****.

now i'm stuck with these. any tips?

edit: problem almost fixed... i blew into every hole in the left speaker, smacked numerous times, and messed around with the cords over and over... and now the crackling is really soft and only happens in 10-or-so second intervals. hm?

edit 2: problem fixed it was my cellphone... if it's within 5 feet of the speakers it would cause it to crackle even when i'm not receiving any messages or making calls. now i wonder if i altered my speaker by banging on it so much.
