I am trying to come up with a home based business that will a) put a few bucks in my bank account and b) help reduce my total taxes paid. Thinking of a specific website topic with affiliate commisions, but have no idea on how to get started. What type of site should I consider?
Also, how helpful is this type of busines come tax time? Can anyone direct me to where I can find what is deductable?

It will not help you with tax unless you are loosing money, and if that is the case, why be in business? If you make money, you are increasing your income and you pay more tax.
If you have a home based business, you can write off part of your house and utilities as an expense. That is the only way I can see it helping you.
You are better off investing in RRSPs to reduce your total income.
If you are married, try transfering some of your income to your spouse to reduce your total tax paid. Assuming he / she is not employed or making very little money.
Find a good tax planner and talk to them first.
