In today's flyer. Flyer came in the Winnipeg Free Pess but is viewable online:

Here is the SimpleTech website:
http://www.simpletech.com/commercial/products/securedigital.html
It says High Speed but no other details.
It appears they make other memory but I'm not familiar with it.
Anyone know them. Decent or no name?

No-name brand card + XSCargo = stay away.
At least I wouldn't trust my photos to it in order to save less than $10, though it might be fine for use in a digital frame or something, where if it dies it's not a big deal.

As I understand, there are standards to follow in order for manufacturer to use the "SD" or "SDHC" logo on their card, assuming they are legit.

So, being an owner more than a few "no-brand" SD cards, I wouldn't worry too much about this card.

Just because a brand is one that you aren't familiar with does not mean that it is a no-name brand.
My company builds rugged computer systems and we use simpletech compact flash parts on numerous models. They play primarily in the custom/industrial space so that would explain why the brand is not familiar to you.
Another thing to remember is that NAND flash is traded these days like a commodity. There are only a few manufacturers in the world, some of whom you would know (Samsung, Intel and Micron) others you wouldn't. Just because a card says crucial or Kingston on it doesn't mean that it uses top notch components. For average consumer use any of these cards are likely to behave equally well.

That's a good point, but the very fact that they're being sold in bulk by xscargo means they might no even be legit, or be warrantied by the manufacturer.
I guess it's an RFD thing, but in general, if a product is going to be used for something important, don't buy it at xscargo. :)

Can you say COUNTERFEIT.
Went to my local XSCargo since it was on the way to work. What they were advertizing and what they were selling was not the same thing.
There is no packaging. Just a plastic flip case that was originally designed for holding a Micro SD card and the full size adapter. No name on the SD card itself.
The labels look like they came off of an inkjet printer. I looked at six of them and all the labels were a little different. Two of them had little edges of plastic flashing on the card itself that stopped the cards from fitting in my MP3 player.
The first card was unrecognizeable in my player, wouldn't even let me format it. The second one said 712MB available after a format and the third said 1.15GB after formatting.
I let the staff know and they seemed indifferent to the whole thing.
XSCargo as usual.......

Just got back from XS Cargo and picked up a generic 1GB SD card for $9.88.
It's not Micro or anything, just regular SD. I needed one for the Garmin Nuvi to put some MP3s on for our trip so it's perfect for less than $10.
Also picked up a generic scientific calculator for $2.89 or something like that.

Slightly warm, I could use this for my Wii...or get a MicroSD-SD adapter. It'd be warmer if it weren't from XS Cargo

True enough. I half expect that scientific calculator to catch on fire or something and burn my house down. Most of the stuff there is pretty junky, IMHO.
