From the flyer. Starting on Friday this monitor is on sale at Best Buy for $450 or you could buy it today I guess and get price protection on Friday. It's a monitor/HDTV hybrid. It doesn't have DVI but does have HDMI and VGA and includes a HDMI-DVI-D cable. It is a P-MVA panel not a TN panel.

I have to start reviewing monitors like crazy. Should have cash by the end of the week and I'm not sure if i should get this Viewsonic, the Westy BB has on sale, the Samsung FS has or find a used Dell one. all withing $50 of each other.

Not a bad price -- good to see these 24"ers are dropping in Price. It's even sweeter that this isn't a TN panel (which my 22" Viewsonic is... :S )

It has a single HDMI connection.
No seperate DVI.

Comes with DVI-HDMI adaptor.

IMO, I wouldn't even consider a monitor of this size if it doesn't have swivel / height adjustment.

There are unfortunately a few things that bug me with this monitor or i would have bought it.

the blue power LED is too powerful and gets annoying to look at.

no swivel and a huge bezel .

integrated speakers which are useless.

and of course no DVI input.

=/

i hope the LG 24" or BenQ 24" would fall in price soon to this level.

And from one of the reviews it said there were noticeable ghosting issues since it is 20ms. To buy or not...

It's 8ms.

And if it's the same panel as the LG 24', it's a smoking hot deal since this panel has less input lag than all 24' LCD and less ghosting than the Dell 2407WFP.

I would pay the extra $50 and get the Samsung 245BW. It has a better response time, height adjustment and dvi out.

Nah, the Samsung is cheap for a reason: it's a 6-bit TN panel and probably comes with the "Samsung lottery", lol.

And the ghosting should be about the same as the first revision 2407WFP, 20ms, so noticeable. The new revision Dells are fine with ghosting but now there's the new banding issue.

Now I read it has proper 1:1 pixel mapping so that's a major plus for me and my 360 Elite. Hmmm. I wish they would hook up the monitors to a gaming rig so you could see the ghosting and banding and 6-bit vs 8-bit differences for yourself. The 1024x768 uniform slideshow they play on all the monitors really doesn't help with anything.

I feel your pain.

I'm taking back to Samsung 245BW to Future Shop today that I got for $450. The TN panel just doesn't cut it for me - I thought it might, I wanted to try, but it didn't.

This Viewsonic is quite the opposite - same price I paid for, but it's a MVA panel, so it should do me quite well. But I'm struggling now, do I really want a monitor that looks like THAT?

And by the way, the Dell is $150 more expensive, not just $50. Otherwise I would've picked one up already. I'm still contemplating whether or not I should just go with a Dell.. the Gamma reproduction on that thing is awesome at 92%..

Doesn't Costco have the 27" Viewsonic HDTV for cheap?
I mean, these are essentially the same thing (HDTV = Monitor). Plus, neither have DVI.

Those 27" are primarily HDTV's. Different ratios and resolutions. They're most likely 720p with a native resolution 1366x768 with a 16:9 ratio. The 24" LCD monitor can do 1080p and has a maximum resolution of 1920x1200.

I saw these monitors instore at BB and they don't look too bad. They looked much better than the TN panels sitting right beside this montor and I didn't see any bleeding. Unfortunately can't comment on whether there's any ghosting or not since all these monitors are hooked up to the same computer showing some lame slideshow.

OK, just got it home. I can't get the resolution to 1920 X 1200. The max I can set it to is 1600 X 1200. What gives?

Thanks

Perhaps it's because of your video card?

Oh man, does that mean that I need a new video card? I have a dell integrated video. My text are blurred on 1600 X 1200. I have to set it to cinema mode to be clearer.

No offense, but you expect to run 24" LCDs with an INTEGREATED Video card?

I am thinking of getting this or the dell's 2407. Which one is better in term of gaming? Currenly I have a e6600 @ 3.6, x1900xtx, will it to be enough to game at 1900X1200? I like to have all the setting to max when I game.

You certainly can run a 24" LCD with an integrated video card. I've hooked up my Dell laptop with integrated Intel Extreme Graphics 2 video to my 24" Dell monitor and it works fine as long as you don't plan on gaming at that resolution. Even the old Geforce3 I'm using right now can run the 24" LCD over DVI with no problem.

The person with the blurry text problem sounds more like a driver issue. If you're running at 1600x1200 you're not even running at 1) the native resolution and 2) the native aspect ratio so of course things are going to look horrible. I suggest you try and update your video card driver, if I remember correctly the older Intel Graphics drivers didn't have native widescreen resolution in them. Also if the monitor has drivers install those as well sometimes the generic PnP monitor driver won't show all the resolutions the monitor is capable of.

None of my Fujitsu laptops running integrated graphics (P1510 and P1120) can run 1920x1200 either, upgraded drivers or not.

It happens.

I have the same Intel Extreme Graphics 2 video. Updated the drivers. I can only do 1600X1200. Can you do the 1920X1200 with your integrated video card?

I brought my dell xps m1210 to the store to test out the 24" display. It didn't have a problem going at 1920x1200. The m1210 is using the gma950.

At home, i just tested with my dell inspiron 700m. No problems getting 1920x1200.

GVA area is OOS.

If I put the Viewsonic 26" HDTV from costco and this 24" LCD side by side, would I get a better picture with the 26" HDTV from Costco?

Thanks

I'd say equal. The panel quality (I just checked the monitor at Staples) is identical.

Plus, believe it or not, the Viewsonic "tv" actually looks nicer cosmetically (they have a new black piano finish thing going on).

I'm think I'll be going this route myself. I need a new monitor and don't have a tv.

By the by, Staples [rightly] refused to accept the e-coupon in-store. I almost had the clerk convinced until some mustachioed manager galloped over and gave it the "no dice" line to me.

I wanna pull the trigger but the closest BB is 45 min away, not bad one way but a pain if I had to return it. I guess the wait for Dell 2407 to hit sub $500 price mark continues.... maybe by Xmas.

Make it $549 and you got a deal!

Really hard to resist this monitor, the lack of DVI connection isn't really killing it for me, its the fact I love my 2005fpw so much I can't risk switching from evil Michael Dell's wonderful panel.

Dell has S panel and this Viewsonic has MVA panel. Aren't they supposed to be very comparable? Would the dell has a better picture quality than the viewsonic?

Thanks

From what I've been reading the Dell is top dog, the 2407 panel's colour reproduction may only be fully appreciated by high end users but add in Dell advantages such as:

- better stand which can pivot and swivel

- more connections incl DVI

- free shipping (BB charges $13)

- free return shipping if you get a lemon (dead pixels, etc)

... and Dell wins for me.

I saw the demo model today. I think the $450 pice tag was justified. The plastic case was made out of the worst plastic imaginable. The cover plate on the back to hide the wires would not stay in place. The stand did not feel very sturdy. The weight of the monitor was unbelievably light. My old 15" viewsonic LCD was probably twice the weight. The Acer 2416 next to this one appeared to have a much better picture (however, in all fairness I did not check the settings), more study, better looking plastic case. Anyone else noticed the same?

If you hold your ear close to the rear top of the monitor, do you notice a slight high pitched sound?

I hear faint squeal and it's anooying the heck out of me.

That is a common problem on many LCD's. It deals with the resistor that controls the brightness level. Turn the brightness to MAX and then the sound should go away. If you turn the brightness level down a few notches, the sound will return. I find that sometimes, as you adjust the brightness from 100 (max) to 0 (min) the sound pitch will change and at some setting it will go away completely.

Mines fine for now. If it bugs you, consider exchanging it. One review I read complained about this also and said Viewsonic would exchange or fix it for him.

Yes it has 1:1. It also has 4:3, 16:9 and widescreen (or full screen, can't remember exactly what it was but I'm sure you know what I mean.)
