I'm an amateur photographer (i don't have my own business) and I have just sold the rights to the use of one of my images to an ad agency for one of their projects. Now they need me to send an Invoice so I can get paid. Do I need to include any tax info on the invoice? Should I just use an excel template?
More info - I'm a ontario resident and I'm selling the image licence to an ontario ad agencey.
The help is very much appreciated.

If you charge tax, you should include a tax number.

You should not charge any tax unless you have a business number and have registered to collect either the GST (federal government) or PST (provincial government). Simply write up the invoice to say contact price and then list the amount.
On your personal income tax for 2007 you would have to report it as an earning. If you anticipate doing more of this kind of work then you should consider registering a business.

Thanks Frankie3s, that is what I thought. I think this is just one off thing, so no need to go off registering a business.

Theres a part on your taxes for "other earnings".
I think you could just write up any receipt, and give it to them.

Hi! I'm really curious about the photograph you sold to this agency. Do you mind showing the picture you sold.

Ummm...he no longer owns the pic and posting it here could result in it being all over the internet very quickly.
If I paid someone for a photograph and then they turned around and helped plaster it all over the internet, I would be super angry.
Don't do it OP...just describe it for us...

Yeh.. thats a problem... but if the company put it up on their catelogue or website, he could just direct us there!

I still own the picture, I am just licensing its use.
edit: The photograph is already on the internet, that is how they found it to purchase the license.
