View Full Version : SATA card hangs system at bootup

I added a Adaptec ASH-1205SA SATA card to my old Athlon XP1600 box for more storage but it won't let me boot if I have a SATA drive attached.

The system POST, discovers my PATA drives, SATA card, and even the SATA drive. It then goes to a screen that allows me to "Press F3 to enter Configuration Utility". A few seconds later it'll proceed with startup and that's where it hangs.

It will boot fine when the card is empty. In fact once XP is up and running, I can even access the SATA drives by hot plugging them in at that point.

To me that means the card's installed fine, but there's something at the BIOS that isn't following the normal boot sequence.

I've looked at the Boot options and I've tried every combination I can think of, but still no go.

The Configuration Utility at F3 is no help either.

Any ideas?

I have a Asus A7V8X-X and just flashed the latest BIOS, and XP Pro.
