Is college much harder then high school?
ABOUT COLLEGE VS HIGH SCHOOL
-Should be exciting during the first year
-70% of the professors are very nice
-The breakdown of the mark is usually small with assignments, labs, etc
-Slightly more reading than high school
-After going through 3 years in College, I noticed the mid-term tests are mostly based on knowing "Facts" from the textbook. Someone who doesn't understand and memorize the facts can get a good grade. My friend is weak in English and made it through the entire program.
-College is harder than high school but easier than University
-Similar to high school (small class sizes & you'll see the same people in your class everyday)
-College is more relaxing than high school (because your timetable is different everyday. Whereas high school you have a fixed timetable)
-In the first year, you'll meet people from all kinds of program. Once you get into your second year, you'll see the same buddies every day.

I'll have to add that it is very hard to meet people outside your program because you face the same profs and students every single day...I think high school and university are better in this case...
Also, I think high school is much harder than college (for my program)...If you compare the math, English, and programming courses, you'll see what I mean...:cheesygri

I'd agree with this, although the good ones tend to be very good (great people, really know their stuff, will go the extra mile to help you).

There's basically no school-based culture or activities in college. Obviously you can still meet people and socialize, but the college won't help you facilitate it in any meaningful way.
This is by far the greatest disadvantage of colleges compared to universities, it's a huge difference between the two institutions.

I found that too, it can be disconcerting when some courses have no relationship whatsoever to your other ones...

from what i've been told and what i've observed from friends. college is not all that different from highschool in terms of the work you have to do. it's obviously more focused on a specific goal. the biggest difference between secondary and post-secondary education is that you'll be completely on your own. you're doing it for yourself. no one's going to chase after you, attend classes at your own discretion. it's all about how motivated you are and if you really want to get through it and maybe learn something.

No problem
I will also give you a little tip that most students don't know. If you look at your timetable, the names of professor with "CAPS LOCK" could change anytime from now to the first day of class. So, keep checking your SIRUS once in a while. The professor name with lower letters are the ones that will be teaching you for sure (no changes)

College was easier then high school, very spoon fed. Then again I speak from an Albertan perspective.

same with for me. College was so easy compared to my University prep courses in high school. It is for this reason I am trying to get into university.
Here's an example of why college is easier... I didn't get accepted to ryerson because my highschool english wasn't up to par. My 80% in college english didnt matter. I went to highschool 4 years ago.

ICA got to be the worst course ever (waste of time) if you have the chance try to finish it off in one go or try to do advance standings for it.
E-mail assignment
MS word test
MS excel test
Computer Knowledge test
Worst thing about it now is you have to buy that access card.
I guess it due to people not buying the stupid course material during my time at Seneca.
Some professors are bad but the very goods are great. CPJ has the best professor (then again you won't be taking CPJ anytime soon )

I ripped off the tests in 10 minutes each with 99% scores, but you'd be surprised how many people in my 1st semester computer programming classes failed them (or scored low enough that they had to retake it). ICA is more of an idiocy filter than an educational experience...

Its a bit insane in the first week. Go to first class, then they give you an outline with a brief overview about the course. Then they kick you out of the class and the prof says "See you next class and hope you finish reading chapter 1 by the beginning of next week".
From my experience, usually September is a crazy starting point because things pile up so fast in the first 3 weeks. Profs in Sept seems more serious than the ones in January. However, the January semester is usually a more calm start off point. No idea why though.

I'm not sure what college is for you, but I went to post secondary education when I was 17 (CEGEP in quebec) for 2 years.
I found it much hard than high school. I never did a thing in highschool and got okay grades, never stressed about stuff. Except, I failed my basic math course during my senior year, and without that class I wouldn't have been able to enter college.. had to do summer school.
Cegep was a lot of work, especially since I took very basic courses in highschool. It was also a big change since I was used to French education all my life and now I was writing essays and studying everything in English.
However, I enjoyed most of it and obtained great grades. I never imagined I'd be in the honor roll and earn bursaries for university.
I spent all my weekends working on assignments and weekday evenings studying, didn't have much of a life.

First day of classes is relaxed. They just hand out course outlines and go through them. However, don't go expecting to do nothing. Some instructors get into the material first day. The courses are meant for 36 hours of instruction, so there isn't fluff time.

If you took Uni / Academic courses in hs, then college will be a breeze. Chances are you'll stick with the people in your first class for many of the other classes. Like your 2nd fam for the next few years.

i had rose caruso for english and she was really great. she's one of those teacher's who's excited about teaching and likes to get familiar with all her students. If you ever have any difficulties with your work, don't be afraid to ask her for help. She really wants everyone to pass unlike others who don't give a crap.
anyways. good luck and have fun!

Quick Question

Going to go rfd book hunting.Yes, they will use the same textbook as outlined...However, sometimes they don't use textbook at all! :)
Finlay is a very nice and funny teacher...I took another course (ADC455) with him and you will actually learn something from him...He is always there if you need help...
Ross is also very nice...I had him for PRG155...Compared to others, I think he is probably the best programming teacher in Seneca...If you know your stuff and do all the labs, there is nothing to worry about...
You can probably "skip" MTH155 classes and just come to class during exams and quizzes...Matson is not too hard, and he is an OK but very boring teacher...;)
I may be able to help you out with 1st/2nd semester courses because I took them already...
Also, I may have a book for you, PM me and we'll make a deal...:D <shameless plug>
