I was told this week that one Ontario University's student ratio is 1:7 for male:female. What are the gender ratios for various Canadian College & Universities? Is this information often true?

That sounds plausible with regards to York University. I was under the impression that it was at least 2/3 at York (women really like the Arts!).

theres a 2:3 ratio of male to female at Laurier

For Waterloo, it's 50:50. However, engineering is about 5:1 males to females as is math and software engineering. For arts, it's mostly female. Sciences is now about 45:55 male to female.

Great thread! Can anyone tell me the ratio for either 1st year Ryerson IT MANAGEMENT program, Business Management program and Schulich's iBBa program?

According to Macleans 55:45 would be the male:female ratio...

I love being an artsie :cheesygri

It's not THAT high, but there are some very attractive young women at York...

Why did I hear it was 1:7 when I entered Laurier 5 years ago? As of now, I still see a lot more female than males, even in the science building.

There's a hell of a lot more females in any university lately, I read an article about this in the Uni Report Card 2006. I remember one faculty member saying that all his departments have more females than males - except for engineering

You don't really need to be concerned with the entire university's male:female ratio, moreso just focus on your faculty and your classes. If you're in Engineering or Math then it doesn't matter how many girls go to your university, because you won't be seeing many, However,if you're in the social sciences at McMaster for example, the ratio is about 1:9 for males to females in some classes

Better distractions than playing Star Craft on your lap top.. Windsor Art is about 1-3 and in business it is 1-2 .. I love my Roman History class it was 1-6 there

This ratio would be absolutely repulsive.

It's called Royal Military College .. like 10 -1 ... but then again they got Queens to target.

Probably 3-1 girls to guys at York ....and its pretty consistent with all the faculties and programs except for Schulich which is probably 1-1.

I think just about every university has more females than males.

But... you can always meet girls outside of class right? Or choose one of those friendly electives...

UVic has the highest women:men ratio in the country, as per Macleans University Rankings.

7:1...are you insane? Even the highest ratio in the country is more like 6:4.

Holy crap, really? I'm a 3rd year UVic student. I'll have to see some source-age here. I don't really believe that... but then again I am in engineering where the ratio is probably about 35:1.

To put it plainly, I don't date engineering girls. With women, quantity tends to imply a higher likelihood of quality.

Ryerson ITM is 12:1 girls.... if you can even consider those "things" girls. They are so bad they blend in with the guys.

You can search on Google, but yes I remember reading this maybe two years ago in Macleans. It makes sense...UVic has tons of arts programs, it's not really big into science and engineering (like Waterloo, for example which is a sausage fest). Do you really not notice all the chicks everywhere?

It's funny you mention it though, UVic Engineering has one of the highest male:female ratios of any engineering school in Canada. It's because there's only 3 programs, Mech, Elec, and Comp and those programs are dude magnets. Women usually go into Chem, Env, Civil,...

Yeah honestly when I go to a party and it's roughly a 1:1 ratio, I'm amazed. I'm pretty involved with faculty activities so I guess that only makes sense... But like I said I meet girls on non-engineering related stuff. Engineering stuff is for going out and just having a bloody wickedly ridiculous time out with the friends.
