Well it depends on what you mean quality of speakers. Do you mean sound quality or quantity (like how much bass it can put out)?

If its quantity of bass and the range its able to hit, I use my ancient but trusty Techmaster P.E.B. disc.

If its quality, then I go with anything non electronic with lots of vocals so that I can judge voice quality as well as how instruments (real instruments) sound to me. There may be lots of CDs that fit in that catagory.

Uh... Logitech? Sure, they sound ok for $300 assuming you have the Z5500's, but there is much, much better sounding speakers out there.

It also depends on your tastes in music; some systems will suit certain musical tastes better. Regardless, my favorite test disc that I find gives systems a good workout is Massive Attack's Mezzanine album.

Everyone gather around... This is a fantastic example of completely missing the point of the OP's post

Now, back on topic... One of the things that you should take into consideration is that sometimes when you want to test the speakers, you might wind up testing them *too* far, so be careful and think to yourself "I do NOT want to post a 'I was testing my speakers and now the subwoofer doesn't work anymore' thread tomorrow" ;)

As far as music to try out, maaaaaybe see if you can a Music DVD that incorporates 5.1 surround sound with something orchestral or Jazzy. I think one of the real rewarding experiences is listening to something simple, closing your eyes and *forgetting* that you are listening to speakers, in your room. Gawd, I know I sound like a meditation fReAk, but I guess I am just trying to help. :|

***ALERT*** Feel free to flame me for the below statement. I am about to admit something worthy of everyone's taunting

One song that I seem to ALWAYS get drawn into is 'Cherish The Day' by Sade... Sonically, it's simple, but with the bass not kicking in until half-way through the song, it should make for at least one nice way to test them out.

***End of flame alert***

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know. Just checking if the OP thought his logitech speakers were the "be all and end all of speakers."

But back onto topic, which I should have added into my original post was that my favorite songs are, you know, all the best songs in the world:lol:
- Master Exploder by Tenacious D
- Jumpin' Jack Flash by The Rolling Stones
- Vertigo by U2
- I'm No Superman by Lazlo Bane (yeah, its the theme from scrubs)
- More than a feeling by Boston
- Clint Eastwood by Gorillaz (Mainly for bass, not SQ, those SPL songs only show how loud your system goes, not how good it sounds when its loud, that is one reason why i like this song)
- Carry on my wayward son by Kansas
- Message in a bottle by the Police
- The Middle (acoustic version) by Jimmy Eat World
- Free bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd
- Thunderstruck by ACDC
- Any song by Journey, Journey can rock on anything.

Hehe, no offense taken. :)

However I will take one more swing at it. Although not Classic Rock and Roll, White Zombie, more specifically their 'Super Sexy Swinging Sounds' album has a very full and wide sound IMO ;)

Stick in your favourite Tupac album!

Jokes aside, Rihanna - Unfaithful.

Norah Jones - Come Away With Me (the whole album)
Future Sound of London - Papua New Guinea (Hybrid Mix)
- Any song by Journey, Journey can rock on anything.
Also try the Foo Fighters' In Your Honor dual album.
