Too bad the mobile data rate plans in Canada are a huge ripoff. Otherwise, this would be a hot deal!

I read it somewhere that you can get it in a triband version, but I haven't seen the data to confirm it. They would be stupid NOT to do that. North America would be a huge market for that kind of phone.

Doubt it'll happen any time soon. If this thing hits the NA market, Apple's lawyers would tear this company a new one (if not 2)

Only if it hit the market through legit channels. All they have to do is make it triband, and let the little guys bring it into places like Pacific Mall. I'd certainly be interested in one if it weren't for the rates that Rogers would charge.

Apple is working with Rogers to try and get them to lower the data plan rates. Its best for everyone that clones not enter Canada until Rogers lower their prices.

That would be great news, and I think it would certainly give Rogers a leg up on the competition. (What, did I just use the word "competition" when talking about the Canadian cell phone market?).

So will the clones such as the Cect P168(GSM tri-band 900/1800/1900) work in Canada? :cheesygri

I think you meant 850/1900.
Well, close enough. 900 is also more like 950, but the idea is the same.
If the phone has 1900MHz capabilities, it will work, albeit very poorly.

800/850 is the same thing... just a name after all... dunno why they changed it to 850 when everyone was used to 800

Okay, so the clones will not be adequate as a phone...is that what it comes down to? :?:

I've owned phones that were only operating on the 1900MHz system and to gently put it, they sucked.
You will get decent reception if you stay within the larger cities, but as soon as you leave the area, the signal will become intermittent or non existent at all.
If you want it for the "toys and features" it may be okay, but if you need a reliable phone to use wherever you are, then forget it.

Me too. Ok, considered and the verdict is FAILURE!
Seriously, you get what you pay for. Perhaps Apple got wind of it and its the reason they dropped the price to $399.

Cheap!! Now is THAT good enough for you guys? I'm sure people would pay up to $250 for this.. it's not that bad. The real thing goes for $400US, which is more than double, and it doesn't have features such as expandable microSD Slot, Dual SIM, extra free battery, etc.
Especially in places like Asia and Europe that don't have the iPhone yet, I think the CECT is going to sell like hotcakes. Even in North America, the fact that it's $100+ cheaper than the real thing will make it sell. Don't forget you also save another $100+ on unlocking and/or hacking.
