Build a new comp.
Adjusted the boot priority of the drives in the bios.
Comp resets and loads up in black screen and nothing works.

After holding the power button and force shutdown and turn the comp back on, the screen is back, but an error message says, "Overclocking failed" when I didn't even touch the overclocking settings. All I adjusted was the boot priority. I think my mobo is fried.

Any word?

in your manual, there is a bios reset function, something like short these 2 pins for 5sec

Have you tried resetting the cmos?

(taking out battery and putting it back in after 10 minutes).

The 'overclocking valid' is a random sort of error ASUS boards throw out sometimes...

Reset the bios to defaults and try again.

Reset, Reflashed, unplugged battery.
All done, keeps happening.

I think i need to get my mobo exchanged.

Overclocking failed is what Asus boards report when they were unable to pass POST. The board then automatically reboots with default BIOS settings. You can then go into the BIOS, and it automatically reloads the last settings you had that caused the problem, and lets you tweak them.

Try adjusting the boot priority to what it was before?

for the fun of it.. try different RAM.

i had the same error message suddenly happen on my P5K board and it was my OCZ ram that had suddenly died.

perosnally i think ASUS f*cked up the P5K series motherboards and they all have issues especially with their SATA controller.

Holy **** yeah! P5k seems so messed up.

It fails, the mobo is screwed.
I adjust anything, even the qfan settings and the mobo thinks im trying to overclock. Peice of ****.
Anyone recommend a new mobo? Cause the P5k Deluxe is not working for me.

I'm looking for a P35 board. Must have premium heatsinks.
