Who will be living in residence? Any advice for those who will be?
It'll be the first time for me and I'll be happy...if not cautious. I still have not heard back about who my suite mate will be. (Humber Lakeshore has separate suites for a pair of students, with their own shared washroom and kitchenette but separate bedrooms.) I'm not even sure what gender they will be :| which makes me a little nervous.
I heard about room checks from some family friends and that's pretty much it...the "no appliances" does sorta suck, though I don't want my things going up in flames cause of some idiot away from home O_O...
Horror stories about roommates? =3 Do tell! Recommendations on cheap food? Anything of note? Constructive comments appreciated!

Jr Chicken at mcdonalds is dirt cheap.
Also, go to costco and get a bag of pancake/waffle mix for $10. It will last you about 2 years, 3 meals a day.

Good question... lemme go check my bag...
Nope. No expiry... it has a nice seal on the bag though.

Well, you could alternate between pancakes and waffles (i like waffles more). If you feel less-cheap that day, you could add fresh fruit or whipped cream..

I do not dispute this...I wonder about alv077's sanity myself...though he does sound perfectly stable.

Lets just say the floor I lived on was not the one you would want to be if you were a early to bed person..
1. Chin ups on Fire exits.. Not a smart idea
2. Putting fire crackers in the coke machine
3. ripping of plastic of coke machine and then stealing 50 bucks
4. getting coke machine removed after going to other floors and sticking coat haggers in it.
5 smashing glass windows
6. throwing empty pop cans into shower stalls and turning off lights
7. punching holes in the wall
8. unscrewing coke machine and putting in from of a flammers door blocking him in
9. waking up RA at 5 in the morning asking him to let you into your room because you locked your self out for the 3rd time this week
10. putting concrete mix in the washing machine to turn them into concrete mixers
11. putting sofas in the elevators
12. filling up the elevators with tables and sofas so no one could stand in them
13. stealing the cleaning crews cart while they are not looking
14. taking rolls of paper towels and rapping the tv in the lounge
15. stealing the big screen tv from first floor and putting it our lounge
16. Make the RA quit half way through because he can't study
17. Stealing plates from cafa and throwing them out windows
18. stealing potatoes and throwing at other rez and taxi cabs roofs.
19. burning things
20 steal all the cable wires from other floors and rez
21. stealing the floor routers and putting them on our floor to get super fast internet
22. harass the gay guy on our floor, by stealing a cooler full of green water (st Pats day) and dumping in front of door.
23. Food Tray fights
24. Stealing furnitures and furnishing new house
25. getting drunk and doing things you can't remember
Beware the 6th floor .. I took part in some of these events and got charged about 200 bucks for holes in the wall + stuff...... for the love of god live on a girls + guys floor cause all guys is unstable and break things or steal
and don't drink other peoples beer cause that is an ass kicking right there and don't be a snitch cause you are dead .. floor rule no one know what happened .. someone from another floor did it..
Drunk white guy on my floors words " some Asian from the 8th floor wearing armor did it."

Hey awesome! Someone who is at Humber Lakeshore too! I thought I was the only one. Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely pm you about it.
And jcoltage I second reflex's question and ask where the heck did you go? I think for those kinds of incidents I will duck my head down and say "I was listening to my iPod, in my room, studying like a good little Asian girl I am!". I'm sure they'll believe me.
Also, Mendesb I definitely will be doing that. I just hope I won't gain weight...I wonder if the "freshman fifteen" is true.

O_O...*whimper* I don't...I don't know if that's true for everyone O_O. I hope not. But well if anything, campus gyms will be a valuable asset for those who fall prey to the freshman fifteen.
I've also been told stories about people going around residence asking for food or looking for campus functions so they can eat because they're so broke.

"
Ambassador Duty Free is located on the Canadian plaza of the Ambassador Bridge. The store is a joint public/private initiative between the University of Windsor and the Canadian Transit Company, which owns the Canadian half of the Ambassador Bridge.
The Ambassador Duty Free Store enables the University of Windsor students to gain valuable work experience in a variety of areas, including retail, marketing and tourist services positions.
The Ambassador Bridge, which links Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, Michigan, is the busiest international border crossing in North America. More than ten million (10,000,000) vehicles crossed the Bridge in 1995."

If you're into the whole drinking/partying crowd, you'll fit perfectly into it. Since I'm not into drugs or drinking cheap beer, I didn't fit in with these people.
I'd definitely recommend investing in a:
- mini-fridge
- coffee maker
- GEORGE FOREMAN GRILL --> omfg, the left-over chicken from res makes yummy sandwiches ;)
- Ikea (bedsheets, kitchen utensils, small furniture, etc.) -> go NOW because the last week of Aug. won't have good inventory (aka sold out)
Please note you may need to *hide* and sneak these in, if you're residence rules does not permit these. xD It's not really a big deal as they're worried you'll burn the building down... which is unlikely unless you're on pot or something else. If you do drink underage or do drugs, just don't get caught as most likely there will be demerit points.
Every residence is different, so I'd recommend joining your school's facebook network, and searching for a residence group.
Also, if you have Frosh for residence, that's a big deal to make all the bonding as everyone is new and awkward.

^ speaking of Pot head watch out for them .. make sure you don't let them in your room or else you will be the one charged by the university and also by the police and this can go into the 1xxx cause your are doing drugs and a bunch of heath fines because your roommate signed up from a "healthy area to live" and endangering the lives of people and more bs.... also they steal your stuff and sell it from drugs so make a list and see the list every 1 month

Thanks for the advice though George Foreman Grill is definitely offlimits.
Any drugs leads to eviction...potheads are definitely not getting into my room. I need to stay in residence to avoid a really crappy commute. (thanks for the advice jcoltage and hey...I'm not a snitch *pout*). I'm not the type to drink or do drugs anyways...I'm mostly going to end up working on campus or something like that. I'm going to be volunteering for frosh so its free for me (Yay free!). Must overcome shyness!

Hey hold up ... you don't want to become the floor hermit .. (my room mate:mad: ) you got to go out and make friends, even if they do pot. Just don't go do it or if you have to do it outside your room and off campus at someone house, but hey that is your choice and not mine. It good to find people that drink cause they are the people that get ahead because they network and learn little tricks to past your exams or what will be one it. And as for jobs good luck .. my gay university gives it out to people who are on low income OSAP ie the government gives them 2000 cash free then they get first choice on jobs .. Stupid Welfare bums .. I say you go out and find a job at Shopper Drug Mart because also the university only allows you 40 hours a month so many students can work ... that is only 400 a month at my university.. if you go work at SDM lets say you stand at cash and study and make 9 at first and after 6 months it goes to just under 11 bucks.. and you get way more hours .. and you can study.. cause at university they give you a job at Tim Hortins and you are always moving...
and they won't kick you out of Rez for the first 3 times then you go before your fellow (only nerds on the board) study board and tell your case.. The only people that got kicked out of my rez was 2 guys in another building that got 2 bottles of gas methane and tried to I guess blow the place up .. no idea what they were going to do with that... stupid white guys
and if you do do something stupid like lets say "cough" throw a empty pop can trying to get it in the bin in the lounge but hit heat alarm and set off the thing off 6am and make the whole building get out in the middle of Jan. the day of your exam Say nothing.. trust me

First off my university is cheap I would tell everyone to avoid it because the rez people charge you for everything .. the total building paid 20 k in damages .. I got charged about 3 weeks ago (middle of July) 2 months after I left that a window is broken and the floor must pay 500 bucks .. also they charged us 750 dollars for broken side tables.. this table was 4 metal legs and a piece of wood. So yes I would say that is gay..
Second .. I have nothing against welfare but they get way too much .. first we pay for them to live for free then they get all the perks like a job on campus before you and grants like 2000 per semester while I pay taxes and get no grants or OSAP ..
third these white guys nearly killed about 50 people by bring in methane in the rez building..
and for the nerds on the board go watch Animal house and go see your rez board.. I stand by my words and I am just giving my input on my life in rez... I did not see you say anything contributing to the topic but instead insulting me

Also to the original poster, I am going to be at Humber Lakeshore campus and living in residence. I actually have to go down today for some stuff. Speaking of that I should probably get ready for my three hour drive.
