does anyone know of a location of where to purchase a 5' sliding patio door(GTA or north of)-would like to know if they still make wood framed ones? All I've noticed(shopping at major locals) are the vinyl type.

Go with vinyl. I don't know if my place does Sliding Doors (if they make them they will make them for you in aluminum) but I'll give you there name. They are called Cobra Doors. They are a manufacturer and you give them your specs and they will make them, with a wood frame and they will even give you the brick molding and sometimes the caulking. Don't pay for the door until they call you saying it ready. Pay ca$h and you'll save the tax (no invoice) and you will get some sort of discount on the price.

Are you interested in only the door or the full install? I sell/install vinyl patio doors by Sunview, they do make doors with a woodgrain finish in four shades.

Has anyone who recently had a sliding patio door purchased and installed by a contractor? Or can recommend contractor?
I'm looking for a basic white vinyl with low E glass (no grill) with white metal handle.
I just got quote from Rona for $695 (Nuance sliding door) + $830 (installation cost). I was shock to hear that installation cost more than door. Is this typical?
Thanks,

That depends. Does this installation cost include aluminum capping?

If you check the Ministry of Natural Resources Energy Efficiency Ratings site (http://www.oee.nrcan.gc.ca/energystar/english/consumers/sliding-doors-search.cfm?text=N&printview=N) you will find as I did that North Star Vinyl Patio Doors are some of the most efficient (www.northstarwindows.com).
I got four replacement windows made by North Star from Brock Home improvements out of Brampton a few years ago and have been pleased with them, I currently have a call into them to get a quote on the North Star Patio Door.
Another consideration was Standard Patio Doors which a few dealers in this area deal with, but their ratings aren't quite as high as North Star. If the quote from Brock comes back much higher I may still look at that but based on my experiences with the windows they are competitively priced.
Now if only shopping for Steel Entry Doors was as easy a decision....
