I went to bb today and tried price matching nba street homecourt for ps3 which was 69.99 at bb and 42.99 at amazon.ca with free shipping... i ask the employee and he tells me no they do not price match with amazon and then i ask to price match another game for ps3 taht bb sells for 69.99 and canada computers sells for 44.99... they tell me cc sells refurbished products and therefore cannot pm with them although i dont think cc sells any refurbs and for sure the games were not refurb... actually i have never tried pming these places with fs but was wondeirng if i could maybe do it at a warden or kennedy location... anyone eles ever pm either amazon or cc at these stores>?

being discussed many times...

formally:

They are not 'authorized' retailers, and do not constitute a price match.

What they really mean to say (I mean this quite literally):

We can't match them because we'd lose too much money, it's not fair they have lower prices, so if you can find another store very similar to us with very similar costs, then maybe if you can't find a loophole we'll match it. But we won't beat it, that's because we're going to lose more money that way.

Seriously, they can't match discount places.

They always PM'd Amazon and CC for me, YMMV I guess?

I successfully PM'd amazon.ca at BB before. I guess it depends on who you get.

...but after posting on the FS forums and hearing their response I have much more confidence that I will...

here's the link to the post I made;

it's hit and miss, i got FS to price match amazon before, since item was over $39 and there was free shipping, i guess i got a good CSR that day who would just price match anything

yeah, FS isn't supposed price-match CC, because CC isn't officially an authorized dealer for all the products they sell. however, i'm sure BB/FS probably isn't an authorized dealer for every product they sell, too.

authorized dealer means the retailer has a direct relationship with the manufacturer, and whenever you ask the manufacturer where to go to buy their stuff (or you go to their web site and check the "where to buy" section), the retailer's name shows up. retailers pay manufacturers to become an authorized dealer.

does an authorized dealer give the customer an advantage? well, authorized dealers get training from the manufacturers, so, in theory, the salespeople should be more knowledgeable. the thing is, this so-called "training" is probably all propaganda from the manufacturer. also, the manufacturer may give the retailer perks like discounts, longer warrranty (which can then be passed onto the customer), etc.

but buying from an "unauthorized" dealer is generally fine. however, in some cases, the manufacturer in canada may refuse the warranty, because the retailer bought the product from another country. for instance, my friend got a WD OEM hard drive, but the warranty was rejected here in Canada because the hard drive from the US. so, yeah, sometimes you have to be careful.

BB and FS will only PM Box stores. They used to PM CC but then quickly fixed their policies. :)

This is a complete lie. I was in BB last month and they have the rules and regulations printed on the walls, and it says they will pricematch any store, including online stores.

With Amazon, I think it really is a matter of who you get. One cashier at BB did it herself without even checking online, but at FS it took a little longer and the CSR did speak to a manager, but the manager said that she'd only do it this time even though "they don't PM Amazon.ca".
