when you go to BMO(to a teller) there is no pin entry required?, they only take a signature??

go for a deposit, teller takes the card, the money you want to deposit, asks for a signature and thats it.

does the same thing work for withdraw?

isn't there suppose to be a security check to verify the person, account holder etc....???

Really? What if someone maliciously deposits large sums of money in my account...? (please?)

Account numbers are like credit card numbers, they aren't consecutive so you can't just say I want to deposit in account 1, 2, 3, and 4.

They will usually verify the name too, but for any bank all you need is the person's account number and you can do a deposit. But if someone decides to deposit a large amount of money, as long as the money is real it's all yours! That person can't withdraw it.

You can do pretty much anything as long as it doesn't negatively affect the person's account. Since a deposit is an asset to the account, they don't care. They're holding your money, they're happy.

No they definitely don't ask for your PIN when withdrawing or depositing from a teller. You just hand them your card.

I have customers deposit directly into my account from time to time, no problems.

Access card by itself is usually sufficient ID to do most things in the bank. Though I think if you were withdrawing cash or getting a draft they'd do an extra check: PIN# or ID or something.

Hence TD has those PIN machines at tellers' desk, where EVERYONE has to enter the PIN # before the teller can do anything for you

What I don't get is those machines don't have covers, so teller can see your PIN # easily, if you don't cover them yourself

everybank so far asks for a pin

BMO on the other hand does not need a pin

what happens if you find a debit card and card holder forgot to report it.
anyone can go to a teller and clean out teh account

Not even. I've taken out thousands of dollars and only half the time have they asked for ID.

Well if you are depositing into someone elses account obviously you don't need a PIN as you wouldn't know it.

You just need the account number as well, and you sign the receipt at the end.

Yeah it really depends, it's all at the teller's descretion. If you are at your home branch they are less likely to ask you especially if they know you.

If the card is active and you appear to match the age/sex of the cardholder that's good enough. Of course if you ask all sorts of questions about what accounts you have or don't seem to know your own information the teller might get suspicious.
