Until August 22, you can get the Sony 32" WEGA Trinitron CRT TV at The BRICK for $398. Regular is $499.97.
It has an excellent picture with good contrasts of black. But it is very heavy and big since it seems to weighs about 200lb.

Is it the same WEGA @ BB?

Sony 32" Flat Screen CRT Tube TV (KV32FS120) - $399.99 @ BB (http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0926HDS0010044912&catid=23239)

Or @ Zellers:

Very Nice TV. Picked mine up at a Zellers sale just after (last) XMAS. Great Pic, no problems with TV at all. As other poster said a HEAVY TV. You'll need a van to get it home, wouldn't think 'most' cars would have the room, even out of the box.

It was on Sale 'Clearance' at that time for $299. Mine was open box and I pd $290.67 (tax in) Thanks to RFD :D

Yeah i have a Regal. There is no way in Hades that the 32" Wega will fit. Heck even the 27" won't fit w/o copious amounts of bungie cables.

Originally I was going to purchase this set, but after seeing this monstrosity in person I decided to go flat panel - picture quality be damned! :)

I was given a 32" Magnavox when my dad upgraded to a 36" JVC years ago and the 32" is a *beast*.

I'd never buy a TV that is this heavy to move and large for a living room size wise.

on a serious note, does anyone have this set? how's the picture quality with your typical SD source? (i.e. upscanned dvd player, digital cable, satellite, etc).

On Digital Cable and DVD, the image looks pretty decent.

How long is the manufacturer warrenty?
If they are going dead in less than 1 year.... maybe the FS service plan a decent idea.

It should look impressive, I mean this is all its going to do anyways, lets face it these are going the way of the dinosaur, yeah without a doubt this will give you the best color rendition and picture quality, its what CRT was great at... it won't save space, it won't be lightweight, and it's not really future proof, with the amount of HD content and even the fact that most DVD's are now Wide Screen, this is not really worth it ... I would have jumped on it a few years back but nowadays the technology is too old and its much better to have something that can do better than 480i ....

Personaly if you still like the old tube based technology find one that can at least do 720P or better ... there was some widescreen units a few years ago that could do that sort of res, I'm still glad I never got one, and got my Acer 32" instead, yeah the colors aren't nearly as nice as CRT and it doesn't scale SD very well, but when I watch a movie (which I do mostly) it looks fine ... and i'd rather lug this around than the 200LB sony monster...

The pic is very good, clear, bright and very crisp. With a animated DVD (i.e. shrek etc) the colour looks almost too vivid (if that is possible). But you can select between 4 pic modes (stand, vivid, pro, movie). I have Satt TV which is much better than cable (IMO) and the SD TV is very good. One of the better sets that I have seen. Sound is good with 'lots' of volume to spare.

From a Previous RFD thread (http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=383946&page=14) (for this TV) here are the costs for an ext warrantee as provided by SONY.

THE WARANTEE IS 1 YR PARTS 1 YR LABOUR.
The EXTENDED WARANTEE on a $200 OR $299 tv will be:
$39 1 yr
$54 2 yr
$79 3 yr
$105 4 yr

I also believe the RFD thread gave the SONY phone # to call. I didn't go for it. Might be a better way to go then FS warrantee? There was some talk in that thread with issues with the set for some owners but I don't generally go for ext warrantee on most products.

I have $125 in Sony GCs @ 20% off if anybody wants this extended warantee.

I had a 32" Sony Wega from 2000 that I broke. I was renovating my basement, placed it on a carpeted dolly, tried to centre it on the dolly, and it fell forward onto the floor since most of its weight is concentrated towards the front :(

Good timing for the sale, I suppose

sony did make a 40 inch WEGA a few years ago. it will beat nearly any plasma or LCD in picture quality, although it obviously won't beat them in RESOLUTION.
