Infonec has it for 169.99 if you use credit
http://infonec.com/site/main.php?module=detail&id=334080
FS has it for 309.99

Not as cheap as the Dell deal for 149 BUT you get 5yr warranty instead of 1 and you get the USB + esata for those who haven't stepped up to the esata yet and those with laptops. YMMV since they will argue you have to call in to have it shipped to the store (although its free to do so). Anyone else experience a lot of heat issues with this drive though? I heard some tech guys at FS actually burned their hands on the case.

esata provides the 3.0GB/s connection. essentially transfer will be as fast as an internal drive. you comp has to have a esata port though. reason i like it is bc i can use it as esata at home but still be able to bring it around and use USB if someones machine doesnt support esata.

This is all assuming FS will PM some place called INFONEC..... about as likely as when Hell freezes over.
I got the 139$ one from NCIX and it's fine.

Yeah, I doubt that Future Shop with PM with Infonec especially out here in Vancouver but I will just wait for NCIX to have a special on the eSata model.
Speed is a good thing and USB2 just doesn't cut it when transferring huge image files...

You can just simply fill the Price Match form (under "contact us") to request PM for the item you want to buy. After they verify it, they will send you the quote. I did this before my order because I had no idea if they would PM DC. Just follow the procedure in the email, you will get PM without any problem. But, get hurry coz sometimes they will make it "out of stock" if they fill they will lose too much profit.

They are instructed to do it right away. There is no way stooples would PM DC, most likely - "not an authorized dealer".

Yah, like charging me $10.00 at the register for Futurama Season 3. :D
I remember they were selling at $49.99, HMV was selling at $39.99, so she said it was only logical that I pay the difference ($10.00).
I actually said "are you sure of that price?" in a casual tone (yah, I'm ******** sometimes). She responded "yah, that's our policy here.".... no more questions asked. :D

staples.ca will always roll out the old faithful excuse -- they offer NEXT DAY shipping while the competitor does not. So they log on to the other store site and pick the fastest shipping possible to mess up your PM. Used to happen to me all the time to the point that I don't even bother trying online PMs anymore.

So what's the better deal...
1. Go through the hassle of PM'ing with BB/FS or Staples
2. Buy for $140 + Shipping + Taxes from NCIX
3. Buy WD 500GB External from Costco for $159 + taxes in store or $179 + Taxes online

#2
You save 8% PST by buying outside of Ontario, which makes up for the $10 Shipping.
Total cost, with 1-2 day shipping, $159, obviously beats #3, and even if you got a price match to $155 you'd still end up paying $177 after tax with #1.

Please note that the drive on NCIX is NOT the same.
They have the FreeAgent while this is the FreeAgent PRO.
The difference is that the Pro also has an eSATA connection, while FreeAgent non-pro is USB only.

as someone else has mentioned, the one on sale at NCIX is NOT the same as the one the OP posted. NCIX is USB only, the Infonec/FS one is USB and eSATA. not too bad a deal if you can get the PM for $155, given Dell had the Seagate eSATA with controller card for under $140 shipped a while back. so you'd be paying $15 for the USB for greater portability.
anyone manage to get the PM? if it's possible, i might consider trying myself to pick one up.

OP, might wanna mention the PM is meant for locals only... b/c Infonec is only in ON
others PMing at FS might encounter the "NDD s/h" tack-on which would kill the deal....
----------
I've heard of RFD peeps PM with FS quite a bit... but like i said in op YMMV
PMing at FS/BB/stooples for local/unknown compy stores has always been YMMV.
the local compy store may have been around for a long time, but FS/BB might not know or just ignore that fact...

My freeagent 500GB was delievered today for $134.99 + tax. I sent in three email quotes and everytime they told me shipping was $27. I called in the order and price matched. The CSR gave me shipping for $10.
The pro version looks 100 times better. The standard version is dark brown with a yellow LED strip in the front. Its made of plastic and does not have an on/off button. But for $10 over the price of a internal seagate, its an ok deal.
