Not a bad deal since you can also earn airmiles with this card.

Sounds good! Might as well upgrade since I already have a Mosaik M/C, get more for no additional fee.

Only thing I hope is paypass is compatible with this card, I had to give up my previous affinity card (convert to Std. Design) because they couldn't activate Paypass on that product time.

I looked through it and I couldn't find it in the benefits but:

Does this card have extended warranty + loss protection?

It has everything the normal mosaik card has so yes it does have extended warranty.

To sum up: Regular Mosaik Card and Features + SPC = Mosaik SPC M/C

Just wanted to add, I inquired about switching and there is 1 feature you cannot add.

Paypass is not available with this card, same issue I had when I had an Affinity card, this is an Affinity/Partner card. They don't know when it will be available (Paypass) with this card.

As mentioned you get all the benefits of SPC without having to renew or paying the small fee for the card.

You will continue receiving all the benefits of your regular Mosaik Card (AirMiles/Cashback, Warranty, etc..) The only thing you can't have at the moment is PayPass as the system isn't programmed to allow the Paypass card to be attatched to the SPC Product type.

Yes, ask for an Upgrade/Conversion, they will mail you a new card within 1-2 weeks. Your Credit Card number stays the same.

Sick! I was just looking at this card and thinking of applying for it. It's my birthday today (well, 4 minutes from now when it's Friday) and I'll finally turn 18.

Now for my dilemma...is it worth it to upgrade to the Silver AM plan for $35/yr or stick to the Bronze plan

If I use my SPC Mosaik MC to make a new purchase, will the SPC discount become automatically applied to the purchase or do I still need to remind the cashier that I would like an SPC discount?

Since you are a student, stick to the bronze plan. Unless you know for sure you will be using Air Miles to travel and charging a nice amount to the card.

You still have to tell them as many don't have integrated credit card systems.

The system will not recognize it is an SPC card. If the merchant doesn't accept Mastercard you just show your SPC Mastercard to get the discount and pay with another method.

Yeah, you're right. I ended up just sticking to the bronze plan for now since I'll only be spending about $100/mth on food and other misc expenses. The only time I would've liked the Silver was when it comes time to buy textbooks

The nice thing with Mosaik is if at anytime in the future you want the silver option you can always upgrade your card.

Just because you chose bronze, doesn't mean you're stuck with it forever.

I probably suggest u choose no fee 0.5% cash back option. Better than 1 AM/$40, since you spent small amount every month.

So that for $100 you get every dollar count to reward, no just 2 airmiles.

By the way, if you really want Airmile, go to Amex get the no fee 1 mile/20 dollar one.

Well partially yes, the difference is if you are a student you are automatically preapproved for $600. They understand while you are at school you may not have time to work at a job.

Now if you didn't have a job and you were NOT a student, it's likely you would get declined.

Unfortunately now, the Mastercard you have is more like a Debit Mastercard. You need to have a real credit card (Mosaik) to have the features attatched. You can always apply for a Mosaik card, check the link on the first page to apply for the SPC M/C.

Did you do it with them on the phone? When I called in they just switched it on the spot, they said the cards are in the mail.

Online it already shows the SPC in the card picture.

I did it with the "Mosaik Message" section on the Mastercard Online website. Perhaps I will give them a call tomorrow at work. Thanks. :)

Discount is not automatically taken off your card so you may still need to remind the cashier.

Phone (1-800-263-2263) or Mosaik Message option will work to switch to the SPC card.

Every BMO Mastercard will have Paypass by end of this year, BMO has already stated this.

There is no need to request Paypass - the bank WANTS you to have it. Everyone in Canada will have it soon like it or not.

Before everyone jumps on this CC... it's not really that big a deal. If you order the normal SPC card ($8.50) you get a free $10 GC anyway, so it's already essentially free. And the Bronze BMO Airmiles card does not offer too good reward returns.

Most students would be better off getting the standalone SPC card and another rewards card, like the PCF Mastercard, or something else that gives cash back.

You'll be hard pressed as a student to accumulate enough Air Miles with the bronze level to do anything with. But everyone needs groceries, and the rewards are redeemable right away.

The BMO SPC MasterCard actually offers a CashBack Reward Option as well. If you don't want Airmiles you can choose Cashback instead. Plus, why would you want to get two separate cards when you can get all the benefits with just one? Plus you will have to buy the normal SPC card every year (and pay the $8.50 fee each year) but with the credit card, there's no fee and you don't have to renew it each year. Duhhhh. Why wouldn't it make sense?

The free cashback from BMO is only 0.5%, whereas other no fee cards offer at least 1% back in cash or cash equivalents (see the RFD article on no fee credit cards). And according to brunes, you get a $10 gift card if you pay $8.50 for the regular SPC. So it seems to me that there are definitely better options than this.

If you're a student and can only get approved for a student card, you might want to try the Scotiabank L'earn, which gives you 0.25% on the first 500, 0.5% on the next 500, and 1% on everything over $1000. If you know you want a GM car some day (not a choice I'd make, but to each their own) then the TD student GM card gives you 3% back towards a GM car. No annual cap, but I believe the total amount you can accumulate is capped. Also, if you get the free RBC student banking package, you can get the RBC student classic II, which gives you RBC points that work out to be around 0.8% back.

Well it really depends on what you are looking for. For example Mosaik includes Extended Warranty/Purchse Protection with their cards and 0.5% cashback. Other student cards like say Citi Enrich, you get 1% back but no Ext Warranty. Same with TD Student Visa, you get it with Green (no reward), but not with rebate rewards (tiered up to 1% back).

I am just wondering, if I got this SPC Master Card, I could potential show this SPC Master Card for the discount and use my 1% cashback visa card for payment.

Does it even better?

They say you have to pay with the Mastercard as well. However, I'm sure some stores won't care.
