If you had signed up before May 1st (i believe) but had a balance of at least $100 as of June 28th then HSBC would deposit $25 bonus into your account on August 1st. Just wondering if anyone got their bons today?

I thought you needed it in your account on August 31st, and they'd deposit the bonus in your account in early October?

Actually that is for the $50 bonus ... others got locked in on the previous promo which was for $25 (for Aug 1st bonus deposits)

Just phoned HSBC and they said they are having problems but will be deposited today/tomorrow and will be sure to back-date it to August 1st so we dont loose any interest that would have been earned on its oroginal deposit date. :)

Got my $25 Deposited today!

Me too!

Random question: Can you use Interac Direct Payment with this account? I know you can do bill pay but it doesn't say anything about POS.

Hmm good question...since we got a debit card when opening this account i would imagine it would work but i have never tried it before. Now you really have me wondering about this. I wonder if this debit card only allows for deposits and withdrawals at atms but no POS....I will have to check this up...Will get back to you soon

Ya I'd really like to know because if you can use Interac I might just use this is my chequing account :P I don't really write checks so might as well have everything come out of there, unlimited transactions :D

Plus unlike a normal chequing you earn interest. But it is possible they blocked it like ING, however ING doesn't allow you to pay bills so who knows. I do know you can deposit in BMO/Exchange machines.

I called and asked, and they said Interac POS should work fine.

Yea confirmed...that is quite freaky since this card gives you all the benefits of a savings and a checking account @ 5% interest (until October that is)...wow i gotta start using my card more often...

I know, it's pretty sweet, it's basically a chequing account without the actual cheques.

I mean sure PCF has 4% but when you need money you have to transfer to chequing and you don't get interest there. Basically I'll use PCF for my real savings and HSBC Direct for my day to day.

Curious tkyoshi, will you be using HSBC for BOTH your savings and checking right now since HSBC's rate is 5% vs PCs 4% and then after October you will revert back to what you said which is PCF for real savings and HSBC Direct for day to day? At present this is what i am doing... not sure if you called HSBC to tell them to switch up your account to 5% yet (they'll do it without hassle of any kind...its sweet for people like us and those who signed up for the $50 since its the bonus $$ plus the interest rate :cheesygri )

I signed up for hsbc to place a few hundred $ just in case my other two banks are inaccessible. And the $50 bonus is nice. Since the promo rate is 5% I have moved most cash to hsbc, and will revert back to pcf once hsbc's promo rate is over.

pcf continues to handle most of my transactions, e.g. cash withdrawal, bill payments. I just plan ahead to avoid excessive idling cash in chequing account.
