So it coming up to painting time soon, and we have decided on Benjamin Moore for our paints, where we are getting stuck, is the colour choices. My question is, what colour do people have in the following areas:
1. hallways and stairs
2. dining area
3. living room linked to kitchen
4. powder room
5. master bedroom
6. office and guest rooms
It doesn't have to be BM that you have, but am interested in the colour type and it flows around the house. Normally model homes paint all the ground floor the same colour, has anyone done this?

I used BM paints in two areas of my condo. The master bedroom was painted in Athabaska and the living/dining room in Natural Linen. They both look nice and are light neutral colours.

1. hallways and stairs: White but we have wainscottng so I was thinking about doing the two tone yellow striped wallpaper a la Bombay Company boxes :)
2. dining area: warm buttery yellow with 1 dark terrracotta red accent wall. If my place wasn't open concept I'd do the entire room red.
3. living room linked to kitchen: buttery yellow same as dining. But since my kitching doesn't flow into dining, my kitchen is a whitewashed powder blue that I'm going to repaint a light sage green. I have white cabinets.
4. powder room: Baby blue for now blech. I wanted to do a dark blood red and wallpaper the ceiling with a faux pressed tin look.
5. master bedroom: Beige but will consider a greyish moss green...more grey than green
6. office and guest rooms: office will be a chocolate brown with a rich cream chair rail.

The main level of my house is totally loft style open concept, so colour choice had to ensure proper flow.
To compliment our very dark cherry oak floors and stairs we chose three shades of a deep taupe based on a grey scale (as my tiles are a denim colour). It's been a while, but I still LOVE it.
I suggest you use the Benjamin Moore Colour Chooser (http://benjaminmoore.com/bmpsweb/portals/bmps.portal?_nfpb=true&_windowLabel=contentrenderer_1_2&contentrenderer_1_2_actionOverride=%2Fbm%2Fcms%2FC ontentRenderer%2FgetDirectContentLink&_pageLabel=fh_explorecolor)with your own photos to see what is pleasing to you. You're the one living in it.
One piece of advise would be to keep the common areas neutral and go wild (if that's your style) in the bedrooms/bathrooms!
and don't forget to have fun with it! I LOVE to faux finish, and play around with techniques every chance I get!

Color choices are a pretty personal thing that are dependent on things like the color of your furniture, drapes, etc. With that said, we have been repainting our main floor this past year, room by room. I went neutral in the hallway, it's actually a Martha Stewart color called Stone. I did the kitchen a Debbie Travis color called Crunchy Celery (a very clean green with no grey undertones) and now I just have the living room left to do. It will be a Debbie Travis color as well, called Everessence, a pale turquoise. Our living room furniture is fairly neutral as it's brown. Our main floor powder room is where I had fun, it's a paint finish that mimics brushed metal in a copper finish. I am tired of all the greyed down colors of the last few years so have opted for more true, clean colors. The other thing to take into consideration is the orientation of your house. Ours sit's east/west and the west sun in the afternoon can really change the colors.I suggest sticking paint chips of all the possible choices to your walls and living with them for a week or 2. Colors can look really different at different times of the day...
Just remember when choosing paint colors for something like a main floor a couple of tricks of the designers. Either keep to different shades of the same color or pick colors that are the same intensity on the chips. For example for different shades of the same color, pick the main color and say 2 shades lighter for the kitchen and 1 or 2 shades darker for the hallway. For getting different colors the same intensity if the color you pick for the living room in the middle color on the chip, make sure the other colors you pick for the other rooms are also the middle of the chip. I hope that makes sense?

One thing that really gets my goat are white ceilings! I hate seeing them.
We painted our entire main level with the 2nd lightest shade on the same palate, a much warmer feeling and you don't feel like you're walking under a white sheet.

thx for the contribution people, really appreciate it. Mind sharing pics of these painted areas? We have brown counches in teh living room and my curtains are beige, and the berber carpet in the hallwway and livingroom is a browny beige look.
The kitchen has creamy/beige look for now, and our kitchen cabinets are beige looking too.
So if am correct, your suggestion is to do the hallway in a neutral look then?

I also had my house painted with Benjamin Moore paint. The trim was a plain white while the walls were done in a pale green named Limsesickle. The colours blend nicely with the maple floors and stairs.

I'm also in the planning stages of repainting my living and dining room. I have an open concept house where the dining room and living room is joined, separated by 2 small columns. I'm not sure whether to paint the two rooms the same colour or 2 different colours. Also I have dark, mahogany hardwood floors and it is hard to find a colour that matches the floor since i'm looking for neutral lighter colours to make the rooms feel bigger.
I need inspirations!! please post pics of your rooms!
