Hi,

I'm looking to replace my old door knobs with some nice Satin Nickel Door Leavers, such as ones seen here: http://www.doorknobdiscountcenter.com/html/kwlevers.html

The price in homedepot for these types are leavers are crazy if you want to replace them in your whole house. Anyone know where i can get these for cheaper?

thanks

Ebay! We bought all our satin nickel egg shaped knobs (9) and satin nickel handles for the bifold doors (15) for the cost of 2 knobs at HD, even after adding shipping and taxes at the border. :)

WOW!

Are you happy with them? i.e. is the stuff good off ebay? Do you mind sharing the seller you bought it from?

We bought from Door*2*Door who is a powerseller. The Ebay store can be found at http://stores.ebay.com/Door-2-Door . He shipped the same day we paid and he has lots of experience shipping to Canada and uses the appropriate shipping method.

There are the "cheap" levers & also the nice ones that you have found....which ironically is the one we got in a bronze finish (Brooklane by KwikSet)...you can feel the difference when you touch it, some just feel/look cheap...

RONA has something exactly like this for $9.97 each. The brand name is "Forge" and it comes in passage, privacy, and entry models, all for $9.97.

This is in Vancouver but I don't see why it wouldn't be nationwide. I've found them at several different RONAs but a couple didn't have them or were OOS. I just bought a bunch and am very happy with them considering their price. They also have different styles (knob, straight lever, etc, depending on the location).

And it is "it's" not "its". Since we're getting anal and all...

What would you say is the quality of these locksets? Have you ever tried Dorex levers and if so, how do they compare?

We actually looked at the Dorex hardware and the ones we bought are definitely comparable. The ones that Rona has for $9 are definitely entry level and lean much more towards the commercial/institutional side than higher end residential. My inlaws put them in their whole house and the first thing my SIL's said was they look like they came from a nursing home. :o

We are so happy with what we bought we just decided to order new satin nickel front door hardware from him with the matching egg knob on the house side and egg shaped locking knobs for our side door and 2 garage doors. He will key them all the same and also throw in extra keys. :)

You can get "Defiant" brand levers for $20 or Weiser Elements (http://www.weiserlock.com/Default.aspx?area=productseries&series=elements) for $30 at HD. It's hard to beat 10 years finish and 25 years mechanical warranty for $30.

I was going to mention these as well, as I've seen them at Rona here in the GTA. They look similar to the 'Delta' in the OP's link.

I'll have to investigate the eBay option, hadn't though of that. We switched over a few to the Weiser ones, but was too expensive to do the whole house.

I did switch over all my (visible) switchplates and outlet covers to brushed nickel, though, as well as switch to Decora. HD has a cheap option for these in their bin section, $2-3 each.

we replaced all of ours with those ones from rona int he winter. They look good enough for me, although if it's a really pricy or upscale house, i'd use something with a little more 'weight'

I find the RONA ones actually have decent "weight". They just don't feel as smooth and have the decagon (10-sided polygon) on the handles, just like the one in the above Ebay ad.

I replaced my entire basement with it and they are fine. I bought Weisers for upstairs though. And I wouldn't use these cheap ones for entrance doors either.
