I purchased a 10x10 gazebo 3 years ago at costco and it cost about 500 bucks. It appeared to be good quality and was on the pricey side at the time, but I wanted something that would last.

Early on, the straps that hold it in place broke, but it was still functional. The fasteners that hold the side curtains rusted and many fell off, and many of the screws rusted making re-tightening them difficult over time. These things were annoying, but the gazebo functioned well as a sunshade and the frame has held up well since it was aluminum.

This spring a huge tear opened up and others started to appear in the canopy. These are not on the seams, but in the fabric. I realize the outdoors is tough on fabric, but I have had low quality ones hold up much better and wonder what customer service could do. I phoned the manufacturer, but they no longer stock the canopy.

Has anyone had any experience with Costco customer service with a large item such as this or another outdoor product?

Find out what the manufacturer will do for you (assuming you still have some documentation/manuals).

You could always disassemble it and take it in for a full refund with your receipt. That's your prerogative when you are Costco member. The item was unsatisfactory within a reasonable time period.

Our next door neighbor has the same gazebo venice. If it were me, for what it sold for, I would be ticked off too. I'll have to tell him he's going to be SOL for a new canopy as his is starting to wear quite thin in spots. I noticed alll the same issues with his that you are having unfortunately... :o

The manufacturer gave me some websites that sell two-tier replacement canopies that might fit this model. I would probably have to sink another $150 into it, as these are US companies, so you have exchange, shipping and sometimes customs duties. Even then, they are not an exact replacement and may not fit 100%.

I was thinking of taking pictures and bringing them in to customer service and seeing what they recommend. It is a shame because the fabric seemed so much heavier than most gazebos at the hardware stores. Thanks for the above replies.

Costco is normally pretty good with returns. I would talk to the manager first before bringing it and see what they say. I can’t see them saying no. Do you have the receipt? I have yet to come across anyone who has not been able to return something with a receipt...even cell phones after 3 years were returned (I knew someone who worked for the Rogers kiosk in Costco). Apparently Costco does not have a return time policy...unless of coarse this is a new policy for them, which I am not aware of. I have actually had to return some electronics and small cooking appliances without receipts in the past and have had no issues

They were able to look it up on the computer when I had purchased it. Costco logs all your purchases it seems.

I ended up buying a replacement canopy for about 60 bucks at Rona for another gazebo and modifying it slightly so it would fit. It is not two-tiered like the original and can't use some of the decorative pointy things in the corners, but is functional.

I thought it would be a pain in the ass to take apart and then I'd have to find a new one and put it together. I am disappointed in having to pay more money to keep it functioning but I am satisfied it should be useful for a few more years.

We had the same problem with our 2 years old 8x8 from Loblaws. I called the phone number in the instruction sheet and they gave me this site http://www.mosquitocontrol.ca I paid $90 and had it delivered to me 2 weeks ago. The canopy was manufactured in China and there was 15 days delay in my order.
