As I'm sure some of you have seen, CIBC has this set of offers right now that can get you up to 30k Aeroplan miles. You get 15k for moving a chequing account (including at least one pre-authorized transaction) and 15k for getting and using an Aerogold VISA (or 5k for an Aero Classic VISA).

I'm already in the process of switching my banking over to PC Financial from RBC. I never had any pre-authorized transactions on my chequing account (besides my direct deposit, which I have already switched to PCF), but I just moved one from my CC to my RBC chequing in anticipation of doing this CIBC switch.

But.... I read this in the fine print:

CIBC reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify, limit or revoke this offer in respect of any CIBC customer who it believes, in its sole discretion, is abusing or manipulating this Offer.

Would CIBC actually consider denying me the miles?

I've never seen or heard of this happening.

But from reading that looks like it could.

It is like any other promotions, they always put down something at the bottom saying that they reserve all the right to cancel the promotion etc at their discretion .... but it rarely happens

In this case, I don't think it would happen to you as I have never heard of it happening before

This is to protect them from someone who may choose to do the process N times.

e.g.
1. create a PCF account,
2. add a pre-authorized transaction to this PCF account,
3. move to CIBC,
4. go to (1).

Except you can't use a PCF account to do this because CIBC and PCF are the same company (essentially) and it is in their terms that this is not allowed.

Anyone receive their 15000 mile bonus for the chequing account yet? I just got the chequing account a couple of days ago and did the custom switch today.

I received it in July with no problem.
