Has anyone bought a house in Barrie, ON or Innisfil, ON built by Pratt Homes? I am strongly considering purchasing one but would like to have any input anyone may have on their experiences with this company?
Thanks

I think Pratt has a better reputation then they used to. That being said, they are a low cost builder and their quality certainly isn't on par with Gregor, Grandview, Baywood, Fandor, etc. If you can help it, stay away from Pratt and First View.
For some reason the Tarion website isn't showing the data for Pratt Homes (http://www.tarion.com/Services/builder_detail.aspx?bcid=11991111). Have a look at First View (http://www.tarion.com/Services/builder_detail.aspx?bcid=209532) as well and then compare it to other builders in the area.
I'd try and call Tarion and see how many defects required Tarion intervention for the builder to resolve.

It appears that as Pratt Homes is shows as having an initail registration date with Tarion in 2004 it is possible they might have been under another name. There is currently no information on Tarion as it appears there have been no closings. Tarion will only intervene when a homeowner takes the necessary steps to proceed to concilliation. When a home owner has a complaint and has gone through required process with PDI, 30 day year end etc.. and still do not feel that the issue has been resovled to their satisfaction then can then apply to Tarion for arbitration. After inspection by a Tarion rep. it is determined what, if anything will be done by the builder to resolve the issue.

Lots of Pratt homes in Barrie. They build to the code & not higher says a building inspector I deal with. Nothing wrong with First View as a volume builder. Please pm me if you need any more info as I sell real estate in Barrie.

Hey realestateguy,
What has your experience been with Baywood homes in Barrie?
Thanks

I used to trim homes in Barrie. Pratt, Baywood, etc. I've seen some stuff that made me never want to buy a home from these guys. Example, no insulation around the windows.
If you are buying a low end unit, be careful. I have heard (and saw) nothing but horror stories.
Nail pops, wall seperating the kitchen and living room actually fall apart, sod laid on top of clay, it goes on and on. Very difficult to get them to come and fix it, they will prolong it as long as possible.
Anytime someone complains about their house, I always say "is it a pratt?"
sure enough...
