I want to cancel a flight I have and saw this message:
- Cancellations are subject to a $40.00 CAD/USD cancellation fee (plus tax) per person.
- Credit files are created for the remainder of the funds, and will expire after one year.
Does this latter point mean my credit score will take a hit if I cancel a flight I have?

no it sounds like they will charge you a $40 fee, and issue you a 'store' credit for the balance (not a refund). you have 1 year to use that credit up.

yea i too think thats what it means,
I got a story here about 'store credit'
Last year Bell overcharged me ($562) on my bill, I clearly knew this was a mistake, because my bill has never been higher than $60. anyways when I called them up I asked them to fix this and refund me the money, they said they would give me a credit, which i can use at bell, but wont put the money back into my account.
Summary: Bell took $562 out of my account, for no reason and then refused to give it back to me, and forced me to use it at Bell only.

There is no way I would accept that, a company can cut a cheque which is sent out, Fido does this.

Fido didn't seem to allow a refund for me. I had fight with them for over 1 month! Do a charge back on credit card, then fight with them for 2 weeks to get my phone number back.

i've got alot of friends who have their bills paid automatically for them like that, and your story is what i keep telling them i'd be scared would happen to me.
i let them send me a paper bill and i can pay it (barring it says $562 owing!)
