Just wanted to set up direct deposits into my HSBC Direct Savings account but their site has no mention of their institution # nor their transit # to make this possible. Any ideas? The bank/institution # would be pretty easy to find...its the transit # that would be tricky...

I dont have the answer, but your best/safest bet is to call them directly and get the info from them.

Institution is 016. Transit are branch numbers, you need to know the particular branch in order to get a transit number.

You can use the branch locator from their website to find your transit #. It is listed online for each branch.

For all HSBC online saving account, the branch is the Burnay BC one, the same one you mail your cheque to open the account.

i don't think this is right. besides, there is more than one branch in burnaby, bc. when i opened mine, i was allowed to choose which branch i want to associate it to since i have accounts at two different branches.

normally, hsbc's transit numbers are 10xxx. the xxx is the first 3 digits of your account number, ie., xxx-nnnnnn-nnn.

The branch you mailed your cheques to isn't a physical branch. It's an office.

Hey guys...ok found the information out...because i signed up online for their "Direct Savings" account then it makes things difficult to find out what your branch is since technically my branch is the one online (?)...so anyway:

Bank #: 016 (thanks Spliffy)
Transit #: is part of your Account # -- format: ttt-xxxxxx-xxx ... where "ttt" is the transit #

For transit #'s that need to be 5-digits long then you add "10" infront of the "ttt" # giving you: "10ttt".

Hope that helps anyone in the future looking to find out and set up direct deposits/withdrawals from their HSBC direct savings accounts.
