ALL

I am in the process of buying appliances for my new home, and I was told to look into gas dryer as opposed to the electric, as far as laundry goes.
Is it really worth it?, will I be saving in the long term?..
I now I have to run the gas line to the dryer..
Does it work the same as the electric ones.
Any suggestions will be appreciated..
Thanks

works exactly the same as electric.
We're very happy with ours, its a Kenmore.
That said, a front load washer
will remove so much more water out of the clothes,
that the dryer hardly has to do any work at all.

we have a Hotpoint gas dryer and it drys the cloths a lot faster than the electric one we had. Saves money on the bills too, we will never go back to an electric dryer.

I have a gas dryer. It does dry quicker.

My mother had a gas dryer for ever and wouldn't buy an electric (which is why we went with gas) My in laws switched from electric to gas a few years ago and said that they much prefer the gas. They wouldn't go back to electric either.

As long as the price of a gas line isn't unusually high (say $600 or more), then you'll probably recoup your costs by going with gas, which will generally save you money in utilities.

One difference between electricity and gas that you don't hear mentioned often is that gas has to be completely vented outside (carbon monoxide from burning, perhaps?). You might see some "boxes" with vents at Home Depot or Rona that allow the dryer air to go back into your house to warm it up, but those can only be used with electric dryers. This isn't a big deal for most people, just FYI.

If you're looking to save money, don't get a dryer.

Gas or electric, both waste tremendous amount of energy heating and blowing air through your clothes. It's money you're blowing away.

Spend $30 for a drying rack. Put it outside during the summer and let the free rays of sunshine do its work. In the winter, the air is so dry indoors even heavy jeans dry in less than 24 hrs.

Besides, the drying rack has fewer moving parts and will easily outlast the dryer.

Very good way to conserve energy and keep costs down.
I tend to machine dry only extra large items such as bed sheets etc.
