What tree/trees do you have in your backyard??

We just planted a sunset maple tree yesterday, it wasn't our first choice, but when we got to the gardening centre, they had sale going on and it was too good a deal to pass.

I just noticed some spots/holes on the leaves, as shown below in a similar pic over the web, should we be worried? The leaves are still all green/yellow at the moment on this tree that is about 13ft high

I moved into our house ten years ago (new subdivision). The city put in 3 red maples along the side and some sort of cherry wood tree in front. When we first got them they were 'stick' trees maybe 8 or 10 feet tall. The maples are now well above our second story windows and the cherry is not so tall but bushy . I am planning on putting some sort of fir tree in the front this year so we can decorate the outside a little more at christmas.
Anyone know what kind of fir tree will survive facing the north west blazing sun during summer? I have tried planting a few dwarf evergreens in the past but they couldn't handle the heat.

Theres a spliced apple tree slowly growing in my backyard. Its gotten pretty tall, but not full. It was spliced from 4 different types of apples.
I wanted a cherry blossom but I lost the argument of Pink leaves vs Free Fruit.

Looks like you got some type of bug in your tree, take a few leaves to the garden center and hopefully they'll be able to resolve your problem. My Birch tree has the same pitting and bumps as your maple.

In my yard I've got a few mature trees;

1 Ash
1 Birch
1 Norwegian Pine
2 Huge Arrow Junipers

I planted a maple last year and it developed the same fungus. I didn't do anything about it and it got pretty bad. However in the spring, the leaves came out and there hasn't been any of the fungus at all this year. I suspect the fungus is something the tree caught at the tree farm or at the nursery.

My first guess would be Anthracnose, since the leaf is changing colour now. Take the leaf in a zip lock bag to the nursery where you bought it and as them for a fungicide for it. Many have been banned in different areas so you would need to check within your region what is allowed.

You can also try to reduce the infection by pruning the diseased area(s).

We back onto a mature forested ravine and planted some larger trees to fill in the spots where we could see through. We have a Linden tree, two Norway Maples, A King Crimson Maple and an Oak tree. All grew very quickly but were bought as larger trees to begin with.

The problem that you have is a fungus. There is no need to be concerned about it and I do not believe that there is a fungicide for it. Many Maple trees get it but some never do. You may have it one year and then never again.

As for trees:

8 30-40 ft Chinese elms across the back of the yard so I do not have to look at the 3 story building behind me. 2 Apples one is a dwarf Courtland that I have espaliered and one is unknown but is deffinatly a cooking apple. 1 Purple plum. Looking to replace a Cherry tree that I had to remove in the spring due to a borer.

Need a good tree for the front of the house now, that hasn't got an intrusive root system, something upright growing with big branches on top, and that changes colours
