My roommate has been being a dick for the last few months. Started off with telling me my share of our electric bill was up $20 (x3 = $60 jump in one month). This was like march, when we stopped using the furnace and it wasn't hot enough for A/C. I knew he had been ****ing the other r/m cause he had been telling him that his share was $5-15 higher than my share a few times. So I refused to pay till he showed me the bill. He still hasn't shown me any bills, so I haven't paid utilities since then.

Fast forward to last night, I stay at my apt. for the first time in a few weeks. I'm seeing some girl who lives near my parents and had been crashing there. I get too drunk and am closer to my apt, so I go there. I leave my phone on the charger in our kitchen at like 2:30 AM. I wake up around 11, phone & charger are gone. I search everywhere, no findy. One of his friends was on the couch passed out face down when I got home, other r/m is out of town, but no one is home when I get up.

I went to the police station, filed a report with him as a suspect. Then I drive around looking for his car, found it at his job, and my phone is in the center console. So I went inside and got the manager to page him. He won't come out. I go back outside, call the officer I had talked to, and am telling him what's going on when the manager comes out. Manager hands me his cell phone, and my r/m tells me where his spare key is so I can get my phone. I tell the cop that I got my phone back but that I have to think about pressing charges or not.

Cliffs: R/M stole phone, I caught him with phone, cops are already involved.

Should I:
1) not press charges
2) move my crap out then press charges
3) ???

your roommate needs to be taught a lesson.

I'd say, move out and press charges.

Is he a close friend of you? or bestfriend?

If hes not a best friend of you,

move out then press charge.

If hes not a best friend of you,

move out then press charge.Neither.

He's a room mate. I would never be stupid enough to room with friends or close friends. I value their friendship.

To evict a housemate is easier said that done. How did you get stuck with him anyway?

I'll play devil's advocate for a moment? What are the down sides to pressing charges that might come back to bite you?
- will he retaliate against you? since he's your roommate, he's got easy access to your stuff
- will it make the situation between you and him more sour than it already is?

let it go, move on, you got your phone back - its not worth the hassle at this point, i wouldnt even waste my time with him.

Wow you people are so mean.

$20? Thats nothing man. Energy companies don't usually have a *set* date that they charge. Around here, they are allowed to charge month for month, anywhere between 15 and 60 days of service depending on when they can actually be bothered to read the meters. So its typical to sometimes have a bill that is anywhere up to 4x the previous months total depending on how lazy they are.

Stole a phone? Nah - probably just borrowed. Unless the guy is a l33t haX0r! he has to know that you can just phone him and rag him out, or simply call the phone company and temporarily disable the number.

But then again, if it was an Iphone, then yeah sure.
