I figure I post here since most of you are in T.O.

I will be in Oakville next week and needs to get to the intersection of Finch & McCowan in Scarborough.

I figure out that I need to get on the GO train from Bronte or Oakville station to Union Station, then use TTC subway from Union to Finch Station and take the 39 Finch East to Finch & McCowan. (or from Union to Scarborough Centre and take 129 McCowan North)

So that's three trips. How does transfer work in TTC? Do I need to pay for each trip?

take Union to Scarborough Town centre and then take 129 north, you won't even need a transfer to board 129 at STC since its in the bus terminal.

What about between Union GO station and Union Subway station?

GO is entirely separate from TTC, so you'll have to buy a TTC fare at TTC Union station (connected to Union GO station). I believe, though, that you will be able to to use the transfer pass from your first TTC ticket to get back on the bus to the GO station when you return, saving you one fare. It's called 'TTC Times Two'.

They are separate systems so you get to pay a full TTC fare. You can transfer free between subways, streetcars and most buses.

Note that while riding GO Transit you must hold onto your GO ticket for random inspections.

Unfortunately for him the program doesn't work that way.

It's for TTC -> GO -> TTC, not GO -> TTC -> stopover -> TTC -> GO

Didn't realize that, thanks for clarifying.

so I need a GO ticket for the first leg of the trip and a TTC ticket for the second leg.

Yes.

And I'd also recommend going from Union to Scarborough Town Center and then taking the McCowan bus to Finch.

To get from Union to STC. Take the subway north from Union to Bloor, then the Bloor-line east to STC.
