Golf equipment is expensive.

I would borrow a set or buy a cheap beginner set and make sure you really enjoy golf before you start investing money in equipment.

I can tell you the popular manufacturers. Talyor Made and Callaway are popular for drivers. Callaway putters are popular for putters. Cleveland and Titleist are popular for wedges. I think the irons is the hardest decision. Tons of popular manufacturers. As a beginner, looking for irons with a cavity back (more forgiving) as opposed to a blade.

Good luck.

Thx bro, I been to the driving range twice.... my wife plays and has a set up clubs. Her whole family plays, I won't ever want to be pro or even competitive... but I do enjoying having decent equipment in all of my hobbies/sports.

However, it would be nice knowing the differences (larger sweet spot, more forgiving etc) as I am just starting out ;)

thx for the info.

I am a member at both the Toronto and Ottawa golf forums....it's pretty addicting though. ;)

I have bought several used golf clubs at both forums. They use iTrader ratings....if you are a new member, go with someone who has a good rating or if you are able to meet at a driving range. I typically prefer lesser known brands. "Authenticity" of the clubs rate highly for me and many others.

Used iron sets can be had for as low as $75-$150. Look for irons that have cavity backs which are much more forgiving than blades. Muscle backs or blades are more suited for single handicappers (those who can shoot under 80 or so for a round of 18) since these clubs are more workable (ie. shot shaping) than cavity backs.
