Fifty years from now, the sun is dying, and mankind is dying with it. Our last hope: a spaceship and a crew of eight men and women. They carry a device which will breathe new life into the star. But deep into their voyage, out of radio contact with Earth, their mission is starting to unravel.

I liked it...some other RFDers, not so much. Go take a look in the freebies thread for more info...but not really since no one actually reviews it...just a bunch of I like/I hate posts.

Wow. This movie is really bad. It's a shame too, because there's not enough serious sci-fi movies, and this one's first half hour showed promise, before the whole mess went down the toilet.

That's one person's opinion. I liked it, and so did the 2 people I saw it with. In a way it's like some of Boyle's other movies (Beach, 28 Days Later) where things kinda go crazy at the end.

You're right. I sure hope others enjoy it more than I did. I suppose I was especially disappointed because I really liked the initial hard sci-fi concept, and hated to see it turn into a generic horror movie. One review I read said it was like watching 2001 A Space Odyssey, and then having the projectionist accidentally replace the last two reels with Halloween 17.

I got passes for it tonight but I won't go. Not my type of movie, just watching the trailer and reading about it doesn't interest me one bit.
awestruck

Saw the movie last night and it was amazing. The music and all near the end gave me constant chills down my spine and the dialog near the end, almost cried (if you're into this sci-fi stuff, you know what I mean).
The only part that was really stupid was when
*spoilers*
Freddy Kruger showed up and getting religion involved.

^ LOL completely agree.
One thing I dont understand is.. were they supposed to sacrifice themselves for the fate of mankind? Or were they planning on releasing the payload, then heading back to Earth? I'm going with the latter but does anyone know why they basically chose the suicidal route?
I know the introduction of Freddy Krueger had something to do with it, but I didnt quite get it.. also, when they were entering the Sun's atmosphere.. why did the Icarus 2 not burn up? Is it that invinceable? :|

It became suicidal when the Scarecrow decided they should try to get Icarus' payload...that's when everything started going downhill. Shoulda had more faith in their own single payload. Blame whoever it was that first brought up the idea of going to Icarus I.

Great movie. It kinda reminded of Event Horizon.
I'm a Huge fan of cillian murphy, and I really enjoyed this movie. He is very under rated IMO.
