You might be able to get someone else to take over the contract? It seems to work this way with the cell phones.

HBO and free movies.

Hard to beat that.

I've had 2 yrs of it, getting approx $150USD value per month
(thats what it would cost if I lived in US and paid DISHnet.

Net cost: $400CAD.

I bought a used VHF, UHF antenna for $30 and put it on my roof. I get about 16 channels. The best part is that I watch less TV now, and get more stuff done. And I don't get a stupid $50 bill from rogers too!!

You got some Foreign channels and your happy with that (intended FTA purpose) or are you talking about modifying FTA to steal cable channels and calling yourself a criminal. Because Bell isn't free nor are PPV movies. These people are called criminals :)

Thou shall not steal. But I guess you forgot about that.

I use FTA to get DishNet in Canada .... If I were in the US it would be illegal .... so I guess my definition of criminal is what Bell/Starchoice/Rogers/Cogeco etc. charging us big $$ for watching TV.

I guess now you'll be shopping for a FTA reciever .... :)

My friend, "Greed will imprison us all"

I really don't understand how all these people stealing can live with themselves.
Wake up and remember .. THAT IT'S THEFT!! PURE THEFT!

Oh, they leave their channels open to piracy, it's their fault.

Next time my neighbour leaves their car door open, or I see a convertible in the mall open, I guess it's ok to steal whatever is in their car.

People who pirate FTA are criminals. Period.

the satellite providers beam down, on my property no less, scrambled television data without my expressed permission. what i choose to do with with those scrambled waves is my business, and i choose to unscramble them for my viewing pleasure.

get the satellite companies to stop transmitting scrambled data onto my property and i will stop unscrambling them.

Actually, more like an illumination within my soul for knowing right from wrong and having a moral conscious. It's nice to be able to tell raise your child and teach them right from wrong, and stealing cable is one of them. If I can't afford HD PVR and I can only get one channel for them to watch, then so be it. I won't spend one penny on modified FTA. These guys selling modified equipment behind the scenes, might as well tell my kid a drug dealer is a good profession. FTA dealers who encourage modifying their equipment to steal satellite signals that companies have paid for and programming that people have paid to produce is not their for everyone to steal as much as you'd like to convince yourself.

why do people even ask this stuff?? he signed a contract!! does your brother understand what that means? It's a legal binding agreement between 2 parties.

I don't care if it was 1000$ penalty. If he didn't like the terms then he should not have signed.

I hate bell (my lines are with primus) but he owes them the money. This is why i don't have cable or satellite for my tv. Every providers requires a contract.

My parents was with Bell since they first launched their first satillite. Signal was terrible back then. I remember they had a Bell channel (198?) and shows how many subscribers they have. I think we pretty much their first few hundred customers. We canceled our service a week ago and switched to Rogers because it's cheaper. They called me day after we called to cancel and tried to retain us. We said NO!

It's just like anything...stores increase merchandise prices because of shoplifting so why wouldn't cable/sat providers boost their prices to help offset signal theft? It's common sense.

Well, if satellite providers were so concerned about signal theft, they would pay more attention to making their signal crack-proof (ie. DirectTV). Anyway, you can moralize all you want, the fact of the matter is the FTA community is growing and being a smart consumer I participate.

BTW, annual savings given that the signal gets decoded "wide open" is approximately $1200. So thus far my net savings is ~ $2000 over 2 years or $2400 - $400 investment.

Cheers !

Its nothing like shoplifting at stores. Bell invests nothing into content, nor do they own the airwaves.

Perhaps if they didnt prey on consumers as in the original topic by the OP (not to mention the inflated costs of a subscription) people wouldnt feel so callous about "stealing" signals.
They will learn what other entertainment sources have learned...that people are largely honest, and are willing to pay for a quality product BUT there is a limit to what people will pay, before they feel alienated. Look at how now you can buy new cd releases for $10-12. Before all the downloading hype, we were paying significantly more. So theres the lesson...at $10. a cd, people will buy it instead of download it (at least I will).
If Bell offerred a comprehensive satellite channel package of, say 50 channels- which I could freely pick and choose, and charged $25. a month I would be an extremely happy and loyal customer, and wouldnt bother with FTA.
Instead they play dirty little tricks when customers try and cancel, they maliciously setup channel packages to stick people with less desirable channels and force you to opt into other packages for just a couple channels more, and they play lousy games such as negative option billing, and unplanned uncontrolled rate increases, and lobby hard to prevent any additional competition in their monopolized marketplace-which would of course result in them having to improve their service and pricing. F-them....I hope they get run out of business, and so should you. They have done you no favours.

These are all "perceptions" what you think is unfair or too expensive, trust me you are in the minority compared to how many customers they have that are satisfied but like anything there are always a few who are not.

Why can't B3V get HBO, Showtime, Cinemax,VH1, Comedy Central,etc?

They pull in all the us affiliates (NBC,FOX, CBS, ABC).

If DN suddenly went completely black black like DirecTV did,
I highly doubt I would order B3V if they can't get these premier stations.
