I've never been to Boston but I'm trying to secure a room via Priceline.

Firstly, does anyone know if all of the major attractions are easily accessible if we stay in Cambridge? The downtown hotels might be more than we want to bid for (via Priceline).

Secondly, does anyone know if the hotels will charge a fee (if you paid through priceline) if 3 people end up staying in that one room?

Hi, I just came back from Boston last week.

I stayed at the Doubletree Suites hotel in Cambridge.

I got it through Priceline for $65 US per night or $303 US after tax for 4 nights. The hotel has a 3 star Priceline rating.

My suite was quite spacious. In the living room, there was a plasma tv on the wall with games, a pull out sofa bed and a dining table. I had a bedroom with another tv in it and a great view of the Charles river. In the morning, I can see the rowers on the river. There were doors seperating the living room from the bedroom.

I think this hotel might have been a bit further than the other Cambridge Priceline hotels but it wasn't too bad. There are also other 3 star Priceline hotels in Cambridge that you might get instead of this one.

There is a free shuttle bus to/from downtown Boston from the hotel between 8 am and 9 pm every half hour weekdays and less frequently on weekends. You have to reserve your spot on the bus ahead of time as they tend to fill up. Other hotels may have shuttle buses as well.

You can also take the subway and either walk 15 min to the hotel or take a cab for $7. I didn't find the subway too bad. You can get off at the Harvard, Central or Kendall/MIT stops in Cambridge. It costs $15 for 7 days of unlimited use.

I went to Boston alone so I can't answer your 2nd question. :) I did book a room for 3 people before through Hotwire and they had to pay an extra $10/night for the 3rd person. I guess it depends on the hotel.

I recommend that you get the Go Boston Card if you plan on going to a lot of attractions.

http://www.gobostoncard.com/

There is a 10% discount on 3, 5,and 7 day cards if you purchase it online by today. I got one and got as much use out of it as I could. I spent one day on a tour to Cape Cod and another day shopping at an outlet mall. You can use it for whale watching cruises, trolley or duck tours, museums, etc. Over 70 attractions are included, you just pick and choose the ones you are interested in. The only problem with this card is that most activities end by5:30 pm.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the Go Boston tip.
And the room sounds great for the price! I'm having trouble bidding on a 3* hotel in the downtown area for less than $110 US so I might go with Cambridge.
