I wish the OP gave us more info. Here is the story from thestar.com

Rachel De Lazzer
Staff Reporter
Eight people have been injured, and one killed, after a truck plowed into a bus shelter in Scarborough at about 4 p.m. today.
“A truck ran into a bus shelter and then went into a store,” said Staff Sgt. William Sheaves.

One person was pronounced dead on the scene, at Lawrence Ave. E. and Warden Ave., and a woman was taken to Sunnybrook hospital in critical condition, said media spokesperson Dean Shaddock with Toronto Emergency Medical Services. Six other patients were sent to various hospitals with mild to moderate injuries, he said.

Three children were among the six with mild to moderate injuries.

Police have shut down the entire intersection as well as a number of side streets in the area.

Toronto Emergency Medical Services sent six ambulances to the scene as well as one emergency response unit and two supervisors.

You know, seriously, what makes the summer the time where a lot of idiots come out. I don't even drive, but I see enough road rage as it is on the TTC. There is definately something in the water here or else we have a case of bad drivers somehow getting "licenses".

you guys are pathetic, you lack a sense of humor and that makes you even more miserable.

to trash this thread about a tragedy with my play with words - scapegoat/escape goat - is not only not funny but irrelevant and inappropriate.

get a life dude.

no wonder Toronto is a f'ked up place with all these humourless idiots.

I am sorry that this accident happened, but I think that everyone here is reacting.

You guys should go to eastern Europe for a few weeks and drive there. Heck, don't drive; just observe even.

Each week, they report the amount of road casualties. In Bulgaria there is a rather crude saying which goes like: "The Americans have a soldier death count; but our people are dying on the roads within our own borders."

The most common type of collision over there is the head-on crash. Most people drive small econo-boxes with 50 to 100 horsepower max. And many roads are still one lane only, so there is a lot of over-taking happening. Thus the head-on crashes.

Truck drivers need to learn defensive driving.

They seem to be overreacting in certain situations. Like someone racing and cuts them off they overreact and jack knife the rig and kill other innocent people.

If someone's is driving reckless and you can not avoid an accident, then hit them, while braking as hard as you can of course.

This way the innocent people do not get hurt and only the "bad" guy gets a wrecked car he or she deserves.

i think every licensed driver in Ontario should take a ride in a big rig. the driving dynamics are not as simple as you thing.

Well no, you don' tneed to be a truck driver to know how to be defensive.

Let's say you drive a car, if some guy makes a left turn directly in your path in an intersection what do you do? If you swerve you'll avoid hitting the bad driver and maybe hit some guy on the sidewalk or another car on you left or right. If you just brake and steer slightly for the back of the other car or somewhere "safe" to hit then you can avoid "civilian" casualties.

The point is to avoid over reactions that could cause more collartoral damage.

You can analyze an accident scenario all you want (cue: armchair investigator), but in the heat of the moment, you're not going to run though all these situations in your head. It is pretty obvious you don't understand the dynamics of driving something so huge. Swerving to avoid an accident in a loaded eighteen-wheeler? Try again, bub.

You've never driven or been in a tractor trailers have you? You can't just break and slightly steer in a tractor trailer. The reason for most accidents involving tractor trailers are because idiot drivers in cars/suv's/pick-ups don't understand that tractor trailers are completely different from cars/suv's/pick-ups, especially when they are towing a trailer (loaded or not).

Now I hope they catch that idiot in the black van/suv.

was drivin by there yesterday, had to take a detour cuz the roads were indeed closed.

apparently the truck went into the play-it-again-sports there.
went by there this morning, and the store was all borded up with plywood or something since alot of the glass had broken. whats nuts is the store is a good 15 feet in from the curb of the road with a bunch things in between. That just tells you the driver must have been driving DAMN fast.

Not to mention, there is a red light traffic camera at that intersection

Umm..how come everyone automatically assumes it's an Ontario/Toronto truckdriver? For all you know, the truck driver could be from Ontario/Ottawa or BC/Vancouver and just passing through Toronto.

It's obvious that when you have a population the size of TO, your going to have a higher rate of getting into an accident as compared to Flin Flon with a population of 2.

I bet you the driver fell asleep. Thos truck drivers have it hard. They have tight deadlines and are expected to meet them which means driving days on end without sleep (which is illegal but thery forge their log books to say they had rest). If they can't accept those deadlines, they'll just give the job to someone else who will.
