More silliness with motor vehicles....
Contrary to the now-defunct rumors, Top Gear will make its return on July 25th with an episode that'll surely send chills down the presenters' spines. The summer comeback episode will feature yet another race, this time pitting Clarkson and May against Hammond on a 450-mile trek from Northern Canada to the North Pole. According to Final Gear, the definitive Top Gear and Fifth Gear fan site, the journey will involve Jeremy and James traversing the Arctic in minus-85-degree Fahrenheit temperatures at the helm of a heavily-modified pickup, while Richard sees the sights on a sled pulled by ten Inuit dogs.

Haha

So much for the original fall release date. And Jeremy's regular comments about leaving the show.

Its just a one off I think until the proper season starts in Autumn. Theyre doing it as a lead-in to the UK premiere of Heroes.

Really Good Epsiode. Especially When Its In Hd!!!

Their lucky that they had extra people and back up equipment, not sure how these three would have make it through the North Pole.

Spoliers :

They should have outfitted the Toyota trucks with Tank treads.

The dog sled guide was on an episode of Pilot Guides//Globe Trekker a few years ago. She and Ian Wright did a 2 day trek in the lower Arctic.

I am very curious how their going to go back to their original start point. Matty <--i think that's how you spell her name. Is one tough lady, its too bad i couldn't see her face.

I must say they got some really TOUGH BBC camera crew and workers in this epsiode.

I saw it this morning before I went to work. Such a good episode. The best part was ...

When JC drove the truck while May was taking a dump on the bumper dumper

In the episode of Pilot Guides with the dog sledding trek... they simply rounded up the dogs and equipment in a plane and flew back to their original starting point. The North Pole is relatively flat and planes have been known to operate in that area.

I don't of any Arctic capable plane that can lift 3 ton trucks though.... considering its ice in the North Pole, and not solid ground like the South Pole.

Just finished watching it. I am surprised they didn't even show Hammonds and Matty getting there, at all. I wonder if they actually made it to the finish line (or be rescued/picked up by someone so that Clarkson and Mays wouldn't have to wait for long). It didn't really look like a close race

Cpt. Slow is fan-freaking-tastic at packing for roadtrips I must say.

Producer Andy Wilman's blog entry on this episode has got some gems in it too

Is it just me, or is Top Gear getting more and more absurd?
Anyways, props to Hammond for toughing it out!

:arrowu: Yeah, I think so too. The challenge itself sounded pretty fun originally. While Mays and Clarkson's antics provided some really funny moments, I think those actually ruined the challenge.

I think they should go back to the root a little bit and focus more on the real challenges and the abilities of the cars

The high-definition versions are worth the wait. You will need quite a bit of processing power to decode these 1.4GB (720p) and 7GB (1080p) videos.

I much prefer the "regular" episodes of top gear to episodes like this. It was entertaining, but didn't have much to do with cars....

(although that trick of filling the tire with butane (or whatever they used) and lighting it to pop the loose tire back on the rim was useful knowledge)

I still can't quite figure out the butane trick. So they filled the tire with butane, and then they sprayed more on the surface? I rewatched that part a few times and still no idea how it actually worked.

The best moment for me was the grouchy alpine instructor shoved Clarkson into the ice pond. You can almost sense the instant panic of him when he was frantically trying to grab a rope. Brutal, but quite funny. I thought it would be James May who would get shafted

The man probably drinks his mouthwash when he gets ready in the morning. Doesn't do much work on his hair though.
