They won't ban him, however a suspension will be forthcoming I'm sure. If convicted, I'm sure they won't need to ban him as hard-time will be in his future.
Well anyone taking odds that Culpepper will end up in Atlanta ?

Dog fighting? That is some serious business that makes me sick to my stomach. It was easy for the NFL to suspend Pacman Jones and Tank Johnson but with a marquis player like Vick? I hope they nail him if he is found guilty. 10 million dollars worth of talent and a ten cent head. On the other hand I hope it was just his stoopid cousin just trying to be a gangsta. Vick makes the game exciting. Run Ron Mexico run!

not sure what Vick was thinking.
If he did participate and facilitate dogfighting at his residence, the guy is a total idiot for deriving pleasure from such a degrading activity.
Even if you didn't have morals and you look at it from a pure financial perspective, the guy was making millions from his sports contract and endorsement deals. To put it all at risk is so foolish.
And if it wasn't him as he claims and his friends/relatives took advantage of his generosity, then the guy is an idiot for not keeping tabs on what is going on in his house.

Mark my words, Vick will be on the field comes September scrambling just like the good ol' days
There's too much money involved in the NFL, i don't condone Vick's alleged activity whatsoever, just saying that (especially in the States), money talks. Look at O.J. Simpson and a bunch of other NFLers who got busted with dope and even Ray Lewis who was allegedly involved in a double homicide but got acquitted and went on to win the Super Bowl.
and here's another tidbit: Pacman is rumoured to take part in Titans' training camp. Hello Commissioner!

Correction...2nd most overrated QB in the NFL. The #1 candidate is Eli Manning. The Giants jumped through hoops to get this crybaby because he didn't want to play in San Diego and look at what he's done for them.

Looking pretty serious according to ESPN article:
Legal odds against Vick just got much longer
A grand jury indicted Atlanta Falcons' quarterback Michael Vick on Tuesday, which at least partially answers one question that has lingered since the news first broke about an alleged dogfighting operation on property owned by Vick in Virginia: Was Vick involved? Obviously, we know now that investigators believe he was.
There are plenty of football-related issues still to be resolved about Vick's future with the Falcons and the NFL, but those might be the least of his concerns right now. Questions about his legal future abound. Here are some answers.
What do these federal charges mean for Vick?
Vick is in real trouble. He is up against the might and majesty of the U.S. government with all of its agents, all of its investigative techniques and all of its skilled prosecutors.
If he has any doubts about the power and skill of the forces arrayed against him, he can call Scooter Libby, former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, or he can call Lord Conrad Black, the disgraced media mogul facing time in a federal penitentiary.
If he still isn't convinced, he can call Jeff Skilling, the zillionaire former Enron CEO who is residing in a federal pen.
All three of them hired brilliant (and expensive) lawyers. All three thought they could explain their way out from under federal charges. And all three were convicted. Vick can, and probably will, hire some of America's best defense lawyers, but they will face a serious battle

I agree, but like somebody else mentioned, football suspension might be the least of his worries. With certain jail time if he is convicted, you can bet there are alot of inmates who are not Falcons fans that would love to get ahold fo Vick in the showers.
Edit: Vick due in court on July 26

I am afraid it is a bit difficult for anyone to hire Johnny Cochrane because he died in 2005.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnnie_Cochran
Back to Vick, I don't see how the Atlanta Falcons or the NFL cannot suspend Vick because of the media circus that will follow him around. These are serious charges. Suppose he killed a human instead of a dog, should he still be along to play before going on trial? We are talking about man's best friend here.
And Vick is not a great passer. Drew Brees who was drafted behind Vick have much better passing stats. Vick is a bit over rated.

Part of da gangster culture he's tryin to live. He's tryin to be da biggest baddass in NFL, and in dogfightin too. Just shows how stupid he is to take a chance like this, with so much money at stake. I'm sure his contract will have some personal conduct get out clause that the Falcons can use to dump his sorry ass to the curb. Too bad Falcons traded away the better QB too. The Falcons are officially on the clock for the 1st overall pick next year!

falcons don't need an opt-out clause.
nfl doesn't have guaranteed contracts--that's why signing bonuses are so important to players. no one back-end loads a contract if they can avoid it.
vick can be dumped without any more monies owed to him (but they will take a significant hit on their salary cap number)
the question is who do they have (or can get) to replace him as a legit #1 starting qb???
most of the schemes they have revolve around a guy who can scramble for 1000+yds. . .not too many of those guys around. i know they have contingencies for starting harrington, but as much as people diss vick, that's not much of a plan 'b'.
if daunte is fully healed and can actually break tackles like he did in '04, that's not a bad option.

Bobby Petrino was brought in for this reason. He is an excellent offensive mind and the goal this year was to turn Vick into a passing quarterback.

I was thinking along of not taking a hit on the salary cap and then getting back the bonuses they paid him already.

I can't keep track of how many times in the off-season that the media has brought this up. If you really think Vick will be a passing quarterback, keep on waiting...
If you turn him into a passing quarterback, you're taking away his strengths (the ability to scramble and run wild). Of course, you can say, "he can be a mobile-passing quarterback"...not bloody likely...

The team has to balance how long he is going to be out and whether it is worth the time/money element of the cap to keep his rights. I think there is still some money that is owed to Vick but if he's suspended I'm sure the falcons will figure out a way to recoup some if not all of the money he was given in his signing bonus

Why is the NFL treating Michael Vick with a kid glove? He should be suspended immediately instead of this policy of staying away from training camp. Is it because of money, fame, image? If it was a role player, he would on the road right now.
Mistreating animals is a serious offence. Vick would probably get more sympathy if he beat his wife.

That certainly is the reason, there is no doubt about that. I just hate the fact that he gets special treatment because of it.
I like what Roger Goodell has done so far in terms of discipline and the leagues conduct policy, but this is the time for him to step up and make an example of somebody. Who better to make an example out of then one of the leagues biggest stars?

Nope, I sure am not going to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Being indicted by the federal government means you are almost assuredly guilty, they just have to investigate to find out how involved you were. There is too much evidence already from eye-witnesses to his property and boys running the operation.
I hope you are right about the NFL distancing itself from him.

Special treatment for star athletes stinks. Vick should be cut and banished from the NFL. The Imus talk show host was fired even though he did not do anything illegal. It is hard for Vick to explain his way out of this one since the dog fighting is on his property. Employees are fired all the time for many different reasons.

I have to agree with that special treatment for star athletes do suck.
But you know what? This is corporate America.... the NFL is all about the big mighty dollar.
Vick is one of their marquee players. He sells tickets, jerseys, airtime etc.
Employees are fired all the time for many different reasons but Vick isn't just your regular employee. To the NFL, he is a marketable asset.
That is why the NFL is playing the waiting game. Distancing themselves from Vick, wait it out and see how bad the damage is. Then, go into damage control and try and salvage this marketable asset into a few more dollars.
Heck, the NBA has a bunch of criminals in their midst that are still playing in the Association. Some are potheads, knuckleheads. Look at Ruben Patterson, the guy is a registerd sex offender that pleaded guilty to attempted rape.
He probably raped her but the NBA has been able to sweep it under the carpet and the guy is still playing.
I am pretty sure Vick will still be playing, even if he serves 1 or 2 years jailtime. He will blame it on his relatives that took advantage of his generosity.

I suppose big bucks drive everything in pro-sports so even if Vick was cut from the Falcons someone else will take him when all the heat goes away.
Even if Vick goes to jail, he will probably make a comeback with another team when he gets out.
There are lot of examples in sports where athletes commit crimes or other wrong doings and come back. Ray Lewis was once charged with murder but still played and now is known for his charity work. Don King killed two men and was convicted for manslaughter for one of them. Yet, he is one of the most famous fight promoters.

exactly, pretty twisted eh? If the allegations are true (high probability as was mentioned that the US gov't just doesn't go and indict anyone unless a high chance of conviction), I hope he gets at least one or two years in jail.
