Kevin Spacey Returns For 'Superman' Sequel

Wednesday, July 11th, 2007

Kevin Spacey will return as Lex Luthor in "Superman: Man of Steel" and appear in "Telstar," Nick Moran's film version of Moran and James Hicks' 2005 darkly comic West End play about flamboyant '60s record mogul Joe Meek.

"Superman" director Bryan Singer met with Spacey in New York while the latter was appearing on Broadway in Eugene O'Neill's recently wrapped "Moon for the Misbegotten." Singer was about to pitch his "Man of Steel" sequel to Warner Bros.; "Superman Returns" scripter Michael Dougherty is now writing the screenplay.

So Bryan Singer will direct the next installment...although Superman Returns wasn't too bad...I am hoping the "man of steel" will be better....wonder what his plans are?

Finally got around to seeing it. But I'm guessing Superman training the next generation? For those that saw it, knows what I'm talking about.

Hell, I would love for them to get around to doing a batman/superman flick

They're working on a Justice League of America movie. Is that close enough?

Welling is one bad actor. I always laugh when he tries to show emotion on Smallville.

He only has 2 decent modes: goofy and angry.

You totally forgot his "shy" look....the one where he looks like a serial rapist.

I wonder who the main villain will be, I really hope it's not Lex again, they should introduce someone new to liven things up.

Doomsday would be nice to see, just because we can ACTUALLY see how much a$$ Superman can kick. I don't think it'll happen.
Since Lex is comming back, he either is the villian again (boring!), or the villian is linked to him somehow...i'll say Metallo.

Wow, you really sound familier.

What do you think of Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson? :)

They need to reboot this series.

When I read quotes from Singer saying he was trying to make a Superman movie that "would make grown men cry" I was skeptical. When I saw that heaping pile of crap my nightmares had come full circle.

Routh was terrible as Superman, the script was bad, the villian (Lex Luthor and a bunch of worthless goons) was boring.

The last Superman was one of the most expensive movies ever made and it sucked. Hope this one is better.

They should get a man to play the Superman role next time.

Read last week that Warner Brothers has made the Justice League movie a higher priority over this. Makes sense since a JL film will be an excuse to print money.

why did everyone hate superman returns so much? I loved it... sure there were some flaws (like kate bosworth as lois lane) but i thought there was awesome effects (the airplane scene), lots of emotion, and some good laughs. One of my favorite scenes is when Superman takes Lois "flying" and he takes her up past the clouds and tells her he hears everything. Wicked scene. And also, Singer promised more action for the sequel so u know this one is gonna be even bigger and better (think X2 compared to X-Men, both Singer classics). And sure enough, it's recently been confirmed that the sequel is gonna have TWO villains (two is good...not ridiculous like the 3 in Spider-Man 3). Superman: MOS = best summer movie of 2009!

^ If you follow the comics (or even cartoon) you will see Lex is extremely smart, not a goon as shown. The Superman shows looks and acts lame ... not "super" in anyway.
The storyline wasn't striking either ... they should have included later part of crisis involved in comics, not just concentrate on personal life of superman ....
it felt more like a chick flick than a macho movie

This Superman looks a little gay (not that there is anything wrong with that), and the title Man of Steel, that sounds a little.......

Psh, hey come on, It IS a dude in spandex right? The same argument can be made for the comics!

And Come one, Brandon wasn't that bad, I liked him better than Tom Welling.
I am also highly anticipating Man of Steel, and am quite angry that the JL movie won't have Christian Bale or Brandon Routh..

Superman Returns sucked. Bryan Singer's idea of how to make Superman "vulnerable" was to make him into a deadbeat dad who stalks the girlfriend he knocked and then abandoned for 5 years up by floating outside her window.

Brandon is also the wrong actor for Superman and the new Supersuit is ridiculous with it's super-panties and the mini-"S"

I liked the Super Suit. Now a mini Superboy's gonna suck. That kid was awful. I wish they killed him off. Routh wasn't that bad. Sure was a way better pick than Nick Cage.
And hey, Superman can make diamonds out of coals. How do we know he's not slipping Lois some on the side? And to be fair, he had no idea he had a kid till the end :D

I really, really, REALLY *want* this movie to be great... if they screw it up I'll be pissed!

I can excuse the first re-make movie being a little... light... There were some plot points to tie up considering the decision they made to not "start over" - and instead pick up where the prior movies left off.

They need some seriously powerful villian(s) in this one to keep the action level up.... and I'm sure we'll all be praying that "super-kid" doesn't turn out to be the hero. Obviously that was a key piece of backstory they set up in the first movie... I think it's inevitable they use it. It is possible they can pull it off and make a great movie - but with everyone seeing that "twist" coming from a mile away, I hope they get creative and somehow keep it interesting and not "cliche".

My favorite idea so far is to have Lex somehow mess with the kid and create a villian out of him... controlled by Lex and with amplified powers (or some such thing). Superman would then have to fight his own son. This twist only "works" for me if his son isn't saved at the end though... I want Superman to have to make the ultimate sacrifice and kill his kid. THAT would be a great action movie that also has a solid story and emotional pull. It would also wrap up the kid storyline.

I'm sure my idea would never occur - although when it doesn't happen in this next movie and the kid is somehow involved in the action... I can always hope they do it in the third movie... when the kid is a bit older (teen years would make him a better appearing villian).

I want a super-villian... and the kid to die... is that so much to ask?????
