Backpack Europe in Late October

How are backpackers in europe during late october? are there still lots of people doing it? Should i go this year in october (which is the best time) or wait at least a year or more?

October is a great time to backpack. Temps are generally pleasant during the day. Bring a "medium" level jacket/coat though as it'll be cooler and possibly even cold at night in the more northern parts of Europe. The crowds will have thinned out and accommodation prices will be lower.
