Maybe I am in the minority, but I have been looking forward to the movie Rescue Dawn ( http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/rescue_dawn/ ) for a while now. It got amazing reviews and the storyline is great.

The problem? It was released on July 4th and only ONE theatre in Toronto is showing it ... downtown with limited, expensive parking

Absolute garbage like License to Wed (26!!?!?! theatres 2 weeks after it's release) and Fantastic 4 (12 theatres over a month after it's release) have theatres which are only 30% full

I understand the movie isn't a huge deal, but how could good movies like this not be shown anywhere? Let me guess, anyone AMAZING movie like Evan Almighty needs multiple screens at the same theatre right?

This sucks!

well... obviously b/c the other movies are more mainstream.

yea, I get it ... but ONE theatre? Makes no sense

i find that movies that are produced and made by smaller companies have limited releases due to marketing and stuff...

So even if they are well recieved by critics, doesnt mean they are going to be on a bunch of screens.

They end up being filled up @ those limited theatre releases, selling lots of dvds, and getting props @ film festivals. I also like movies that no1's heard of. I usually head over to queen video by queen & spadina. They have knowledgable staff and their rentals are only $3.75 for a week O_O

Smaller movies make more money going straight to DVD anyhow.

I feel your pain. I'm still waiting for Moonpie to premiere in Toronto.

When I saw Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrells it was only showing at the Varsity. But end up doing amazingly well when it hit the dvd market and from word of mouth

Rescue Dawn is like other indie films in that it opens in limited release and then expands over the weeks as the buzz begins to build.

It's not uncommon for a movie to open in less than 10 theaters and then expand to a couple hundred in the months to come.

Rescue Dawn was very good, but not as good as Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.

The Fantastic 4 series are possibly the worst comic movies ever made ... and yes, I am including Batman Forever & Batman and Robin

what about The Hulk and GhostRider?

I thought both of those two were extremely sh*tty. Except for Nicholas Cage swirling and sipping JellyBeans in a Martini glass. That was priceless.

It's even worst when they aren't playing here!

I was looking forward to two Sony Pictures Classic's, The Valet and just released Steve Buscemi & Sienna Miller's Interview.

I doubt these will get a BD release as well.

BTW, "License to Wed" was dry and basically a Trailer Movie.

I'm pretty suprised its only playing in one theatre...Christian Bale is a pretty big actor now and i would expect it to be a little more widely played around the city. I dont know if i would mission downtown for this...i would probably wait until it comes out on DVD.

the release date for Rescue Dawn isn't till July 27th but had a limited release on July 4th. So no need to complain then

I actually kind of liked The Hulk. It felt more like a drama than a traditionally goofy comic book movie. Have to give Ang Lee credit for trying something different.

Speaking of the Hulk, part 2 (or maybe a totally new one) just started filming here in Toronto with Edward Norton, Liv Tyler and Tim Roth.

I saw Rescue Dawn at the Filmfest last year and thought it was really good. Props for Bale going manorexic again like in The Machinist except you actually see him get thinner throughout the film which is kinda disturbing but it goes to show you how far he will go to play a character.

At least you HAVE a theater... it's just a drive downtown away.

A lot of the limited releases won't even make it over here.

I wasn't aware it was in limited release ... Everything I read suggested the 4the was the official release date

If it is in wider release on the 27th, I will wait until then ... I hate going to the Varsity ...

So you watched the first Fantastic Four movie and hated it, considered it to be the worst comic book movie ever up till that time.

Then you went out and spent another $13.95 and two hours of your time seeing the second Fantastic Four movie?

Why didn't you stop going after the first one? That's what I did after getting burned twice by Spider-Man, Pirates of the Caribbean and Harry Potter - I just stopped wasting my time and money on crummy series. On the other hand, I love Fantastic Four series - imho, Silver Surfer was one of the best comic book movie ever - right up there with Superman 2, Daredevil and The Phantom.

The first Fantastic Four was average but the 2nd was crappy...short 89 minutes or so and Galactus as a cloud. Making Galactus a cloud was one of the stupid things to do

Aren't theatres backed by the movie companies? Thus the limited or wide releases.

are you kidding me? Daredevil and the Phantom are probably 2 and 3 interms of the worst comic movies ... you're nuts
