Have a really old TV(20+ years) approx 15" in the kitchen
Have a 15" lcd left unused for a few years, so I thought might as well retire the TV and replace it with the unused LCD
Problem is the LCD is old, so it only has a VGA-in, and being an idiot when it comes to what port can/can't work with what signals. I'm asking for you guys/gals' help.
How can I connect the TV signal wire to a LCD monitor with VGA port? (without having to use a computer)
If there's just an adapter thing that connects a tv signal wire to a VGA wire, sorry for wasting you guys/gals' time
Thanks!

Yes, what you need is a VGA box

Ah, I think he'll need more than a VGA box. I take it he wants to be able to watch TV on the monitor? He'll need a tuner; whether that be in a VCR or he'll need a one of these http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?sofocus=bs&sbrftog=1&maxrecordsreturned=300&frpp=50&from=R10&satitle=VGA+box+tuner&sacat=-1%26catref%3DC6&sargn=-1%26saslc%3D2&sadis=200&fpos=ZIP%2FPostal&sabfmts=1&saobfmts=insif&ftrt=1&ftrv=1&saprclo=&saprchi=&fsop=1%26fsoo%3D1&coaction=compare&copagenum=1&coentrypage=search&fgtp=

An external TV Tuner is what is needed here. The link that dmdsoftware2 provided is good.
If you are in the GTA, visit a local computer store to see what they have. I suspect something decent will cost about $80 to $120.

Thanks for all the replies so far!
I forgot to mention that I already have the channel changing box thing (tv tuner?) I just need something that'll allow me to convert the TV cable port to a VGA port
so do i need what brownbear suggested? or dmd's? or something entirely different?
Thanks again!

If you already have a tuner, your TV wire will plug into the tuner.
BTW, what is the output on the tuner? Same Coaxial TV wire, or RCA (Red, White, Yellow) wires?
Either or, you will need a VGA box or an adapter to convert the signal.
If you have RCA or a S-VIDEO out, (Red, White, Yellow), then THIS (http://cgi.ebay.com/VGA-card-to-TV-S-VIDEO-RCA-OUT-cable-adapter-D5_W0QQitemZ330146876203QQihZ014QQcategoryZ31531QQ rdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) will work for video signal.
Something like THIS (http://cgi.ebay.com/Signal-Converter-TV-Tuner-Box-TV-to-VGA-Monitor-LCD-PS2_W0QQitemZ320136373406QQihZ011QQcategoryZ3759QQ rdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) will help I believe
Also, you are aware that the monitor will only output video, unless there are internal speakers in the monitor.
First answer this, what output is in your TV tuner box? Is it the same TV Coaxial wire, RCA or S-Video? Also, do you have external speakers or is the sound going to run through the monitor?

Don't think that will work! Check the fine print...
# It will work with laptops and desktops with VGA cards that has TV-Out function capability through the VGA connector.
# Please check your PC & Video Card manual or manufacturer to make sure that your VGA card has TV-Out function capability through the VGA connector to ensure this cable will work for you.

Go with what is mentioned in post #2 if you have a tv tuner available. Channel changer box you mentioned should be okay, just as long as it has RCA outputs.
Go with what is mentioned in post #3 if you do not have a tv tuner available.

I know I saw them at FactoryDirect and FutureShop before but a quick search on both draws no results.
