Hi,
I know I can still cross a US border by car without an updated Cdn passport. If I cross by car and then want to get on a plane from one US city to another, do I need an updated passport?
My passport is expired and I wish to fly in the US before it can be renewed. I am thinking I can cross the border by car and then fly within without a passport.
Your insight is appreciated.

You are correct. Domestic flights do not require a passport.

Yes, you can and another plus is that it's almost always cheaper to fly from across the border as well.

I'm doing the same. I'm driving across the border with my driver license and birth certificate then flying within the US from there.

I'll be driving from Montreal to Burlington without a passport and will then be boarding a flight from BTV to LAS. I have two questions that I hope someone can answer:
1) Is there an offical website which indicates that Canadians traveling within the U.S. do not need a passport?
2) What kind of I.D. should I bring since I do not have my driver's license?
Any feedback is apprecited.

1. Yes, there is an official cite. I really don't have any urge to find it though. You can either take our word for it (I'm 100% positive about this) or you can find the official site yourself.
2. Drivers license and birth certificate are always the best pieces of ID to bring. Health card isn't always accepted as a piece of photo ID (at Buffalo airport they wouldn't accept it and told me I needed another piece of picture ID).

The link does not say anything about flying within US as Canadian or non-American.

You can probably still use your old passport as proof of citizenship when you cross if you don't have a BC. I had to make an unexpected trip to the US before I could renew and they accepted my old one. No you don't need a passport ( you do need to produce proper photo ID tho) to fly within the US on a domestic flight.

At best, an expired passport only proves what your citizenship was. Conrad Black would have an old Canadian passport but he is not Canadian anymore. With tighter US border control these days, this can be problematic. Also, remember that you need to come back.
