ok so i suck with cell phones..got a question..

my gf got a new cell phone (sony ericsson w810) and a plan without callerID...she told me that the rep said the phone has its own sort of callerID built in...basically if John Smith is in your phone book, it'll say that John Smith is calling instead of unknown caller (if the person isn't in your phone book, you'll most likely get a 'unknown caller is calling')...my question is, is this true? and if so does anybody know what this feature is called?

any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Well obviously it will show the name that you set it to if you have it saved in your phonebook

If they arent in your phonebook it will show Unknown

thanks for the reply.

the reason i asked this was because my cell phone only says unknown caller even when ppl from my phone book call...maybe its the fact that my phone is almost 3 years old.

anywho, if all phones do that now then i don't have a reason to get callerID anymore when my 3 year plan ends and i get a new phone.

That's an interesting question ... With quite a simple answer ... why don't you call her after she enters your name into the phone and see if it shows up. After that, report back to us :)

You need caller ID for the caller lookup to work. If you don't pay for caller ID, then the phone has no way of knowing what number is calling, and therefore has nothing to lookup. So it doesn't make a difference whether a number is in her phone's memory or not. There's no way that she'll get any ID of any kind.

Either the rep didn't explain things too well, or your girlfriend didn't understand.

I think the rep talked you/her into buying the phone and it worked

ya i checked it today..says unknown..i figured it would but when she told me the story i thought it was some new function or something.

well she needed a new phone anyways so it didn't really matter what the rep said..but of course that caught her/my attention

thanks for the replies guys =]
