computer won't play video files

On my laptop when ever i go to play a video i get sound however the picture is always a bunch of colourful lines. I have used many different types of video files and i get the same problem. I get the same result if i use WMP or Itunes. Can anyone help? Thanks in Advance.

have you tried VLC media player? Plays everything that i have ever tried.

thanks for the tip however i want to know why i can't play videos in those programs. I use itunes because i'll connect my ipod then watch movies on my laptop.

You need to download the codec pack:

Download and install the K-lite codec pack.

Google it.

Installed the codecs and everything works great :D
