View Full Version : how to stream media from computer to tv?

i want to know how to stream media from my computer to my tv... like if i have movies on my computer, i want to watch it on my tv downstairs, sort of like the media manager of xbox360, like u can set up a wireless connection via windows media player , but i wanna do it without the xbox... or a ps3 i got a wireless connection in the house, any ideas? thx in advance

You have 2 choices.
A) string a video and audio cable from the computer to the TV. You'll still need to control everything from the upstairs computer though.
B) put a device next to the tv that is able to stream data from the upstairs computer over wired/wireless network. This could be an xbox, a media extender, or another pc, etc.
There really is no other way.

what would be the slowest computer that would be able to do this? would a pIII 400mhz be good enough?

My preferance and what I do is use a modded xbox with xbox media center.

I used to use a 800mhz AMD and it worked fine for dvds and xvids, it couldn't do HD video files though.
