So i bought a new pc a few weeks back along with office.

I installed it on this machine and activated the product. However, the product wasn't up to snuff and i returned it.

Because i'm not using that machine, I want to reclaim my licence, how do I go about doing that???

Please help.

If you returned the product you lost the right to use the license. And how did you manage to return a software product that was clearly open and used?

Something doesn't sound right here.

I returned the PC, I own the software still.

But because I installed the software on the machine I returned, I want to reclaim the 1 of 3 licences I have on this package.

Ah. Call up Microsoft and plead your case?

oh poor you.. office 2007 .. never will that be installed on my computer. Try and return the software for a restocking fee even... anything but don't waste your money on it...

Agree. I'm using Office 2007 and miss the familiar 2003 menus. There is software out there that I can buy that will give them back to me but why didn't Microsh*ts allow us the option to use either or?

I hope you were smart enough to uninstall Office before you returned the machine. If so then you shouldn't have a problem re-using that serial on another machine.

Re: Office 2007. Yeah, I tried 2007 for a few days and really, really couldn't stand it either. I wanted my old toolbar back. And I got it by dumping 2007 and going back to Office 2003. Life is good again!

what the hell?

Office 2007 is so much better than 2003. I'm testing it at work and I liked it a lot more.

The ribbons are stupid. I shouldn't have to learn my Office suite to be productive.

Admitting to piracy very smart of you. Go back in the hole you came from. RFD mods should really take a stand on posts like this.

Of course, I'll probably get banned first for flaming before a self-admitting pirate would.

If you returned the software how can you claim or reclaim it?
Also note you bought the machine along with it. So the software belongs to
that machine. That's why MS sells the software so cheap to those companies.

Microsoft has new policy even for Vista retail for transfer to new machine.
All this to avoid piracy

I have MS office bought separately is able to install it on other PCs.
I assume you have similar one.

With given info I can see the Monkey Business here. I may be wrong.

Since you say you have original software try installing it. if problem call tech support.

The OP demonstrated bad English in the first post. He returned the computer, not the software. He wants to now install the still owned software onto a different computer, having returned the computer that he originally installed the software on.

I'm sorry, by product I meant Office 2007 not my CPU and no it wasn't an OEM version.

But if anyone has a firm answer that would be swell.

If people haven't bought office 2003 or later they may not know this. Certain versions of office come with 3 licenses. They say you can install it on up to three computers with the one CDkey that is inside the box.

I've installed office 2003 for people and MS activation server does monitor it. You can install it three times and it activates no problem. On the 4th time it tells you that you've already installed it three times. But all you have to do is call microsoft and they'll go through a phone activation for you as long as you state that it is no longer installed on at least one of those previous 3 computers.

I assume that as with XP they will merrily activate it over and over for you until it seems suspicious. they probably won't even blink for the 4th 5th and 6th time. After that who knows.

So to the OP. Don't worry about it unless you know your computer turnover rate is abnormally high and you want as much leeway as possible before MS starts getting persnickety.
