Which shops would people recommend in Toronto?

I'm currently checking out CyclePath and Bayview Cycle. Any thoughts on those stores? The thing that is weird about Bayview Cycle is that they only carry Trek bikes... but then again I'm not sure if thats a bad thing or not.

Dukes on queen st. www.dukesonqueen.com Excellent service.

Dukes carries a lot of different brands: Trek, specialized, kona, ibis, etc. I'm not too familiar with mountain bikes, but they did have a lot.

I also like curbside cycle on bloor st. www.curbside.on.ca...

I haven't done the bike thing in a while but I always enjoyed going to Silent Sports (www.silentsports.com) and Cycle Solutions (www.cycle-solutions.com).

If you're planning on getting some common parts or tools to do your own work, then I highly suggest you go to MEC (www.mec.ca) for that.

Second Silent sports and Duke. Both have been around for a long time.

For a front suspension x-country bike, $1000 is middle of the road.

www.gearsbikeshop.com

got this (http://www.konaworld.com/bikes/2006/cinder_cone.htm) for $700 taxes in ($925 reg.)...

they also offer free lifetime basic tuneups...

the only bad thing is theyre located south of the Airport in mississauga but it was well worth it IMO..

Sorry if I'm hijacking your thread (don't want to start a new one), but I'm also looking for a bike shop in the GTA. However, I'm looking for an entry-level bike, max $400, preferrably last year's models since I hear they're usually on sale.

I've been to bikesports (http://www.bikesports.ca) so far in Newmarket (I work in Newmarket), they only had a Giant Boulder SE going for $389 and a steel-framed Trek 820 going for $300.

To the OP, bikesports (also in Richmond Hill) has a wide variety of bikes in your price range and offer a 2 year warranty/repair.

Are there any bike shops in the GTA that has more variety entry-level bikes around my price range? I'm guessing I should go with Trek, Giant, or Norco brands?

Also like to add I'm mainly using it for city commuting and some trail rides, so I'm guessing a hardtail with front suspension is ideal. OH and the theft factor as well....

Thanks

The first time I went in to Sweet Petes, I had a really good impression. The second time, I walked out. One of their employees invited me to bring my bike into the store, so that it wouldn't get stolen outside. Another employee commanded me (quite rudely) to get my bike out of the store. I don't know if one jerk employee is enough to justify not shopping there - but I know I don't need that kind of crap and with plenty of other competition in Toronto, I doubt I'll be going back...

ive posted it before in some other threads, but i think its worth another mention.

theres a bike clearance sale downtown at the exhibition grounds in october where all the shops go to clear our their surplus stock. they have a good selection of bikes there from low to high end, and prices are great. lots of room for bargaining too!

i dont mean to plug it, but i go every year and get some great deals on accessories and parts, so i just wanted to share the wealth.
