We just purchased a 'toy' car for hubby and the leasing company is having a hard time getting the car to Toronto from Minnesota because it's high season for this.
Does anyone have experience in having a vehicle shipped long distance? What company did you use? We would prefer the car covered.
Flying down to drive it home is not an option, dh doesn't want to add mileage to it (since it's 1k miles and the car only has 5k on it now)
Any other advice ...please feel free to offer it.
Thanks

I shipped my car in 2002, so don't really remember the company name. One suggestion I can make: get your car shipped to Buffalo or Detroit (even better), then drive it back to Toronto. You will save several hundred dollars (my quotes for shipping Toronto - San Francisco vs. Detroit - San Francisco were 500-1300 less for shipping from Detroit).

Wow...really? So how did you pick it up, we're being told it would be difficult to have a pick up point in either city and then have my husband do the waiting in line at customs to present the paperwork.
I just calculated his flying to Minneapolis (cheap United at $255! one way), 2 days lost wages and driving alone for 14 hours would be the same as the quote we got for $1600.

Can your husband just drive the car across the border without saying a word to the custom? If he was asked, then........

I'm not sure but I think that would be a HUGE risk. The risk being the possible seizure of the car.

That's not the issue at all...the paperwork is all done, it's merely getting it here now. The quotes from three trucking companies range from $1600 to $2200 and it wouldn't get here until about the 29th.
If he drives it up, it would have dealer plates (ON) on it, and he can just go into US customs, provide the proof of ownership (and proof the car isn't stolen), and then goes into CDN customs to bring it through, it's been precleared.
I just don't want to pay $2k to have it brought here. I mean it's still a deal of a car, but that's a lot of money. He did ask if he could just meet someone in Windsor/Thunder Bay/Buffalo, but all carriers told the dealer that they wouldn't have a meet/drop off point to make the exchange.
I just approved the $1800 carrier and the car should be here in about 2 weeks.
